What creates this great divide? Affordable healthcare, equal treatment of humans regardless of race or sexuality, regulation of pollution, freedom of women to chose their healthcare...a great society. Who can be against all this???? I don't get it.
Thinking people ask, how does all this get paid for without taxing the general population into poverty? Non thinking people don't burden themselves with such questions. It isn't that most everyone isn't in favor of these things, perhaps with some caveats, but nothing is free and when the government promises something for free, grab your wallet, because there isn't anything as expensive as a free government program.
It's called a SOCIETY. We all give so we can have good roads, and good education for our kids, etc The very reason you can trade the markets is society built all this on tax dollars before you were even born. YOU are the one that's wants everything for free.
Okay, how much is the maximum percentage that someone give out of their income to the government for the items you mentioned?
Friend of mine, retired, works for the election board during elections. He worked the Primary yesterday. He's the Judge, person responsible for checking registrations, making sure voters get the right party primary ballot, etc. His observations..... Polls opened at 7. Lines out the door, overwhelmingly Republician until about 7:30-7:45. Then from that point to about 5:30, mostly Democrat voters. From 5:30 to close massive run back to mostly Republician. His theory.... Republicans felt the need to be at work.
Huh? He works and pays his fair share. Why should he work for someone else's benefits if they do not wish to work for their own? That's why socialism fails. You eventually run out of other people's money.
So the real question is how much not, should I pay any taxes? I'm trying to understand the vitriol b/w those that identify dems & repbs We all want a great country for our kids? No great country was ever built on Libertarianism. We have to work together.
That's not an answer. Just what does "society" mean? Does it mean we should have some social safety net? I think we should, and we do. Does it mean I should be grateful to have had the opportunity to earn more than most, so I should also be grateful to have the money to write that check to Uncle Sugar every April 15th? I am. I'm just asking if you actually want free, totally free healthcare for all, free education through college for all, a guaranteed income for all, guaranteed housing for all, just how does all that get paid for without raising the overall tax rate to a point where there are more people moving downward than upward, or even maintain the status quo? Address that and we can a have a discussion. Otherwise all you have is a dream, a very unrealistic dream.
