What Russia said... and the Western lie press suppresses: See also "Putin has proclaimed a new national idea for Russia as it abandons the dream of a Greater Europe"
Once again @earth_imperator spewing multiple threads from the Kremlin propaganda source, Russia Today. He knows its an incredibly disreputable source since he refuses to post the url in the raw -- instead attempting to hide the source in the title. No country on the face of the earth has been more brutally imperialist than Russia -- for centuries now. Should w mention the millions of Ukranians that Stalin deliberately killed in order to "Russify" and ethnically cleanse Ukraine. Now Putin is trying to follow a similar playbook. It's like @earth_imperator has no self-awareness of reality.
You better go read history. One can make the case that the British empire may come close... but nobody outdoes the sheer number of deaths in their imperialization drive than Russia over the centuries.
Not just that, everything east of the Urals has been conquered through slaughter, pillage and rape. People talk about the eradication of Natives in North America but casually ignore that the Russians did worse because the information has been largely deliberately suppressed in Russia. Yes, everyone who has experienced Russian occupation and imperialism is wrong. You know best.
While Mao Zedong is deserving of the "greatest number of deaths in human history"-award as attributed to a single person, when it comes to deaths caused by imperial expansion of a single country Russia is indeed a strong contender. Although without a consistent comparison framework it's hard to say as it depends on how far back one looks.
Good point. I do not consider China and Russia's attempted autocratic imposition of "communism" internally to be imperial expansion or colonialism. As for the sheer numbers, centuries older colonial empires only killed fewer because they lacked the means, e.g. fossil fuels and machinery.
