everything seems to change every year in this field. maybe we could have some kind of sticky thread about platforms and detailed information about each one and their features instead of some random pages just posting their opinions abotu what is best . that way everyone can make a decision based on actual information about which platfrom to use. because unlike everyone here who is an absolute genius and knows everything about everything(but doesnt want to share since its secret but they are on trading forums pretending to help others at the same time). new traders dont know where to even find that kind of technical information about a trading platfrom to make an educated decision
doesnt have to be for scalping just general technical information about trading platfroms that is not found on their sales page
I've using Sierra Chart for around 20 years. It has its problems but it does everything I need it to.
GREAT IDEA 1.What platform/platforms do you use. 2. What do you trade futures, stock or options or all 3. Not so many stock platforms, that also have futures dorm/ladder 4. I have looked at propfirms to see what they use. Some have their own trading sotfware, other use fx. Lightspeed, Sterling, DAS, REDI, Taikon,Silexx and RealTick
General question/suggestion about platfoms Not what im using. Just want to be able to make a decision based on information and not random biased review/comparison pages that claim "best platform" because we got sponsored by them
Top of mind pros/cons from what I currently use (trading futures)... Ninjatrader Pros - strategy builder is amazing (I don't care what anyone says otherwise); use indicator-on-indicator & old Ninjatrader Paul posts for workarounds - good support - endless ways to customize - custom trading hours available in addition to preloaded instrument hours - ATM strategy - syncs great with the app. Makes for an easy way to monitor a running strategy if you're out and about. - strategy analyzer is great but a little limited. My results compared to live trading have been close (strategy enters on stops the majority of the time) Cons - while amazing, strategy builder can also be a giant pain in the ass. Calculate on close or learn to code and ditch the builder. - exporting instrument data is far more annoying than it should be - it's clunky & quirky. I've run into instrument data being wrong after compiling ninjascript, so when in doubt reload historical chart data going back to live. Use more windows vs more tabs. - if you trade from a pc laptop and plug/unplug from a monitor during the day your layout probably isn't going to hold (...it's annoying) - you're stuck with them as your broker TradingView Pros - can't get much easier to export instrument data - its nice to look at, polished and fast (at what it does) - Chatgpt is pretty good with pinescript (I assume it's fine with Ninjascript as well but haven't used it there) Cons - no custom trading hours (9:30am-4:15pm UTC-5 or Globex...that's it) - no ATM type of order management - no point+click strategy building - very limited trade history in platform
What about platforms like thinkorswim webull etc. From what i understand they are both about the same at the moment. As far as order execution trading hours and features. Webull has much better interface and mobile app But TOS has better scanner and maybe slightly better share availability for scalping but according to ross cameron its still much slower at filling orders than whatever paid platform he is using(i forgot what he uses) And im not bringing up robinhood for obvious reasons
I do not think that Thinkorswim or Webull are as good for scalping, as the platform I already have mentioned. TOS and Webull are not used by any propfirms. Ross Cameron use Lightspeed, then you have to use Lightspeed Broker. Before Ross made his own scanner and charts. He used e-signal together with Lightspeed. If you trade a little bit you get the platform for free. With Charles Schawb you can use Das Trader Pro, that has driffent pay plans and you can ad a better scanner. Some people claims that Sterling trader has better charts than Das and Lightspeed. If you like to have 10sec or tick chart. I think RealTick has that. Ross Cameron use 10sec chart. You can also buy Ross Cameron s chart and scanner plan. I am not sponsered by any, and I do not care what you use
Its sad that we have to specify that we are not sponsored lol Cant even give free advice without fear of a lawsuit these days. I like to have one second 2 minute and 5 minute charts side by side I lost my ability to safely trade higher timeframes after the bear market so i started trading shorter ones.
