Sorry for the very newb question, but I've never really dealt with options before. But I might want to buy some waaaaay out of the money puts on the S&P500 (or similar) to mitigate some tail risk. I want them to be American, exercise any time, style. Relatively close bit/ask spreads are desirable too if possible. What all is out there? Thanks!
You could buy S&P future puts or SPY puts? The options have good liquidity so you should always be able to sell the option back and collect whatever extrinsic value is left in the option. When you exercise early, you simply throw away the extrinsic value.
