Options are always upside down at open....try trading an option without volume, the bid and ask is miles wide with a middle point that sometimes you can't find until you place an order to see if it actually goes through
As a general rule... a buy limit won't be filled until it becomes the market's ask. One can place an order between the bid/ask, but it won't be filled "in the middle" unless the MM decides to take it. If a trader wants to avoid a big spread, should play options with a tight spread... many are only a few pennies.
Your first sentence has not been my experience. Your second sentence, on the other hand has often been correct. Sometimes, I could game the system if my directional sense was correct.
I've been up 3k the last 2 days. The open interest is low because most traders don't have the technical savvy to recognize it was a deal at that price.
