https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/06/sport/laurel-hubbard-weightlifter-olympics-spt-intl/index.html As a very woke community, we should all be so proud of her. I'm sure the fact that she was biologically a man a few years ago gave her no edge whatsoever. You can laugh it off as an insignificant culture war issue, but they turn out the base and make moderates think, maybe the liberal party is going too far. I actually think CNN/MSNBC and the like are playing right into the GOP's hands by giving them so much attention on the trans sports bills they're passing. If the Dems try to appease their woke community on shit like this instead of talking about kitchen table issues they will turnoff middle America and lose the House again.
I personally know one youth who vehemently opposes being classified into a gender. I'll use 'she', but sometimes she prefers a "female" name and sometimes prefers a "male" name. She of course doesn't have unlimited freedom to do this, legal records and all, it's mainly just social. My point is that if I know one young person like this there must be many more, and they will inevitably change our future, well, they already are. What's the harm, the real harm?
It will be interesting to know if she was given hormone supression therapy which supposedly as part of the transition will supress her testoserone and other male hormones to be more female. That would limit her ability to still train as hard as she did before when it was all male. If they are going to push hard for trans athletes to be allowed then they have to address the hormone suppression therapy.. and then how do you test for that.... and then shoudl all trans athletes then be medically tested... etc... I hate when Dems stand up and shout about an issue and then never want to go deeper into the real issues and details and anyone questioning it is a ______-phobe.
The answer is simple, anybody biologically born male should not be able to compete in women's sports. It's unfair to women and we should not be ruining their sports for the less than 1% of men who believe they're female athletes (transitioned or not). Is there one example of a biologically born female who can compete with men at a professional level?
I'm reminded of that famous "battle of the sexes" tennis match between Billie Jean King and... forgot his name. She won.
I can imagine a state level race, say the mile, with no gender restriction, where a male "wins" by breaking the tape but does not personally run faster than he has before, and a female who "lost" the race sets a new personal best and rises from the 12th fastest miler in the state to the 10th fastest. It's in the stopwatch, not the finish line.
Bobby Riggs was 55 and Billie Jean King was 29. As an avid fan of tennis and tennis player myself I can tell you that no woman on the planet could compete with anybody on the ATP tour. Even Osaka/Serena/Halep would lose to most D1 college players.
He should have kept his famously big mouth shut, then. And age-grading is another way of measuring relative performance, too.
