Weekly options question

  1. Hello,

I have a question about the weekly options. Normally I have heard that CBOE releases weekly options on Thursday for the week to come and they will be tradable until next Friday (7 days)

When I look in TOS, I can see (Weekly) options like this for AAPL:
    28 OCT 16 (Weeklys 27 DTE)
    4 NOV 16 (Weeklys 34 DTE)
    11 NOV 16 (Weeklys 41 DTE)

Here we have 3 weekly options that will expire 27, 34 and 41 days from now.
My question to confirm. Are those options tradable today and if so, how can they be called weekly options as they have a lifespan which is greater than 7 days?
Also if they are tradable now, shouldn't then 27 DTE behave just like a monthly option in regards to DELTA and the other greeks?

Weekly options is just used to denote that they are not the standard monthly expiration cycle. Depending on the vehicle you will find varying offerings AAPL is obviously a more popular product so they have weekly cycles all the way out as you have noted. As for the greeks, if you typically trade 30dte on the monthly cycle then yes the 27dte will be very similar.

  3. Thank you, then I understand the difference. Then I know how that works and what I have to work with.

    Thank you!
