We want in. After pulling out of the Trans-Pacific Trade Partnership on his third day in office, Trump now wants back in. Trump called the deal negotiated and signed under the Obama administration "a disaster" and "a rape to our country", but is now embracing it to gain more leverage in his escalating trade feud with Beijing. Will it be called a disaster and rape to our country when he does it though?

And who will take the credit for the deal?

It is going to be extremely difficult to get back in with the same concessions the Obama administration had fought for and won. Those are gone now, and it is going to be almost impossible to regain them, because the remaining parties are content with the pact, as it is now. We can probably rejoin fairly easily, but minus specific features that were favorable to the U.S. and had been hard won at the negotiating table by the Obama administration. This is yet another illustration of how damaging an unqualified oval office occupant can be; one that is blind to his own fallibility and will substitute his own judgement for that of true experts. The sooner we can rid ourselves of Trump, the better. Clinton also evidenced a change in position re TPP during the 2016 campaign, but there was a marked difference in the rhetoric coming from the experienced, politician Clinton, and the neophyte Trump. Clinton carefully avoided painting herself into a corner, whereas the buffoon, Trump, did just that.
