John Winthrop's "city upon a hill" dominates presidential rhetoric and our self-understanding. Here's the problem

    PETER MANSEAU

When Barack Obama delivered his first inaugural address six years ago last week, on January 20, 2009, it was the first time a newly elected president used the occasion to give voice to the diversity of religious life among its people. “We are a nation of Christians and Muslims,” Obama said, “Jews and Hindus, and nonbelievers. We are shaped by every language and culture, drawn from every end of this Earth.”

Such a high-profile expression of the varieties of American religious experience was unprecedented, even if the reality it described predates the Republic itself. A spectrum of beliefs informed the nation’s history well before its first president, in his 1789 inaugural address, spoke of “that Almighty Being who rules over the universe.” Yet Obama’s choice of words served as a reminder that only recently did the range of opinions about the nature of that Being, including its existence, begin to receive their due in the ongoing national conversation about the appropriate place of religion in American life.

Perhaps most noteworthy about the president’s acknowledgment that the United States is a country of many faiths was that it seemed noteworthy at all. His simple declaration of a catalogue of beliefs surprised many because there persists, among believers and nonbelievers alike, an assumption that the United States is, for better or worse, a Christian nation. more . . .http://www.salon.com/2015/02/14/we_..._and_the_eternal_lie_of_the_city_upon_a_hill/

oh that should be worth reading...
db the anti christian hater and his go to site for anti christian articles.
And citing that guy known for truth Barrack you can keep your Doctor Obama.

We were a Christian nation according to the Supreme Court case I have cited numerous times. and 83 percent of the country identifies as Christian.
Depending on your definition we might not be a Christian nation anymore.

Odd, do you think the decay we are suffering has anything with when the Supreme Court started dismantling our ties to our judeo christian heritage in the 1950s?

Here is a poll showing that we are 83% Christian. If I recall some polls say its closer to 86%.

Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States
    ...

"These, and many other matters which might be noticed, add a volume of unofficial declarations to the mass of organic utterances that this is a Christian nation. In the face of all these, shall it be believed that a Congress of the United States intended to make it a misdemeanor for a church of this country to contract for the services of a Christian minister residing in another nation?"

“There is no dissonance in these declarations. There is a universal language pervading them all, having one meaning. They affirm and reaffirm that this is a religious nation. These are not individual sayings, declarations of private persons. They are organic utterances. They speak the voice of the entire people. While because of a general recognition of this truth the question has seldom been presented to the courts, yet we find that in Updegraph v. Com., 11 Serg. & R. 394, 400, it was decided that, ‘Christianity, general Christianity, is, and always has been, a part of the common law of Pennsylvania.”

    Your people:

Christian group to schools: Stop filling kids' heads with dinosaurs

Technically Incorrect: Insisting that dinosaurs are a 19th century invention and caused one child to become 'bestially-minded,' Christians Against Dinosaurs posts its displeasure on a popular parenting site.

if we are not a Christian Nation, how come we celebrate Christmas? Or for that matter, if we are not a patriotic nation, why are the markets closed today and I am reading this shit because somebody got elected to POTUS?

  8. The USA is NOT a Christian nation. Anyone who thinks it can be defined that way is an idiot.

that's some heavy reasoning. Just declare anyone who has a conflicting opinion is an idiot, and by default the other side wins.

hmm, let's see how this works, ok, I'll try (first time, hoping for beginners luck) ok, here we go.

"TAXES SHOULDN'T BE RAISED and Anybody Who thinks they should be raised is an idiot!"

How'd I do? Well I guess that proves my point, can be no arguing with that (unless you are a complete idiot.)

Yeah, I like it, works for me
