The Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder were a ratings dream for TNT, as Monday's Game 7 broke a record for the highest overnight rating for an NBA game on cable television. The Warriors' series-clinching win raked in an 11.2 overnight, knocking Game 7 of the 2012 series between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat out of the top spot.

While cable television ratings normally come in lower than ratings for the NBA Finals -- which are available on broadcast channels received in more households than cable television -- Monday's Game 7 did so well ratings-wise that it outperformed some of the NBA's recent championship games.

The 11.2 from Monday night's game was better than ratings from Games 1-3 of last season's NBA Finals. Games 4 and 5 of the 2015 Finals earned an 11.7 and 11.8, respectively, while the Warriors' championship-clinching win in Game 6 of the 2015 Finals earned a 13.4, the fourth-highest rating in NBA history, according to Sports Media Watch.

Game 7 of the Western Conference finals this year beat the ratings from every game from the 2012 and 2014 NBA Finals. Only seven of the 36 NBA Finals games since 2010 earned a higher rating than Monday's Game 7. That number is even more impressive considering all of those 36 games were on broadcast TV, not the more exclusive cable TV.

The game sets an impressive mark across all sports, as Monday's 11.2 is the third-highest cable rating for a non-football sporting event. The only two games that performed better than Monday's Game 7 were the 2015 NCAA Final Four game between Wisconsin and Kentucky (13.3) and the 2016 NCAA National Championship game between Villanova and UNC.

Both of those NCAA games had a leg up on the Warriors-Thunder game, however, as the NCAA games were broadcast on three channels (TBS, TNT and TruTV) whereas Game 7 was only shown on TNT.

To put Monday's Game 7 into the context of TV in general, Game 7's ratings were gargantuan compared to the most recent season premieres of "Game of Thrones" and "The Walking Dead," two of the most popular shows on television.

According to Turner, Game 7 pulled in an average of 15.9 million viewers. This year's "Game of Thrones" premiere raked in 9.7 million viewers on the highly exclusive HBO, according to TheWrap.com. Last October's premiere of "The Walking Dead" on AMC drew in 14.6 million viewers, according to Variety.com.
