It looks like more politicians are reading the forum. Smart move. This is a good first step. All guns should be registered and insured. They are the leading cause of childhood mortality. Tens of thousands of Americans die from guns every year and many more than that are seriously or permanently injured. It’s a public health crisis and needs to be reduced.
Great move but if this SC hears the case I doubt it lasts Gun owners and police need to carry thier own liability insurance.
Speaking of "causes of mortality", if your party would stop promoting fentanyl trafficking and give at least 1/100th of the attention that give to covid to the fentanyl crisis, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I dont understand why we treat guns so differently..... i have to have insurance for my car, general liability insurance for my small businesses, extra insurance for the pool etc.. guns owners should be required to have insurance for their protection and the protection of others.

I support the concept of requiring gun insurance -- as long as it is not punitive in price level. The real issue will be all the unregistered guns. And all the illegal guns out of the streets which are responsible for most of the carnage. Legal gun owners are not causing most of the problems. IMO a gun insurance mandate followed by law-abiding gun owners will not help all that much with the bulk of problems caused by unregistered and illegal firearms -- unless it is combined with other measures to address the unregistered and illegal guns.
