Well, I would think that it would cut down on shoplifting. Some of these stores, to include Kroger, Target, etc in "certain" areas do have high demand and volume but managing the loss and the danger to employees from letting the hoi polloi into the store has unbearable costs/losses.
"The average historical shrinkage rate in retail, as reported by the National Retail Federation, typically falls between 1.4% and 1.6% of total sales. This figure represents the loss of inventory due to factors like theft (both by customers and employees), damage, and administrative errors. While some shrinkage is unavoidable, retailers aim to keep their total shrink percentage below 1%." "The average shrinkage rate has remained relatively stable around 1.4-1.6% for the past several years." Another way to put the "Weekend Warrior" Nat Guards to use perhaps? LOL
Averages mean nothing when you are looking at specific high risk stores. That's the job of management to do something different with outliers. Portland Oregon for example, due to the stresses on the stores and its employees and chronic pillaging of the stores, shut down a couple of its highest volume Kroeger stores. Just too much stress and loss on the stores. The fact that the average across the country somewhere else is not like that is neither here nor there.
True just like average store rent can be a misleading stat when looking at major metropolitan areas. Which I would think would make them (high rent locations) ideal for "Dark" stores by converting old buildings and not having much of a need for parking. But there is more to any new trend that just "X", no matter what a certain media might convince some to believe.
I have watched this pretty close. I don't think they want to get to "the last mile". I think they will have you drive to a pick up area and get your products. If you want home delivery use Uber Eats/Grub Hub/Door Dash, something like that...
What are you talking about? I've used them (WMT) multiple times in last year plus. Both delivery from their local store and an off-store location. Delivery is by sub-contractors on Spark platform. No going back.
Both those stores have increased security (guards and cameras) and everything is behind a locked case. Shoplifters were/are brazen. Drug people in the bathroom doing their thing.
I guess. I dunno whether those are same two that first closed and stayed closed or whether that another two that managed to stay open with additonal security measures. Target close a couple stores there too while mentioning pillaging and theft as a factor but not the only factor. But if some are still open due to additional measures - security guards and locking more stuff up- then that still supports the point I made- which was that if a Walmart location "goes dark" then it would help to deal with pillaging problem. If you are not letting the hoi polloi into your store they are not shooting up and shitting on the bathroom floor and pilfering stuff. The inmates pretty much run the asylum in portland so I am not up to date on each scenario.
