I'm stuck with W7 because of important legacy stock market software and definitely don't want MSFT putting W10 on my machines. To prevent MSFT from forcing W10 on you, try this... ________________________________________________________ "... step 1: Open gpedit.msc (Group Policy Editor) step 2: Go to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update step 3: In the list of settings, find "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update". step 4: Double-click this one and set it to "Enabled". This setting was originally meant to be set by administrators in multiple-system business environments, where random ugrades to Windows 10 could wreak even more havoc than in single-user situations. This means that Microsoft is unlikely to ever remove this option, and that this setting will probably remain the most effective way to block uninvited upgrades..." ____________________________________________________ This may not work on other versions of W7 as they may not have "Group Policy" function.
People who don't have a english version will have to do a bit of searching as it is not on the same place in all versions. But I found it so everybody will be able to find it.
Story is that MSFT is going to reclassify the "auto upgrade to W10" from "optional" to "important" early in 2016. (Personally, I look through the list and download only the "criticals".) We should look through the list of "updates" to make sure upgrading to W10 isn't on the list of what we download. If it is, uncheck and then block.
Interesting, under Computer Configuration my Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update lists a bunch of functions (11) but no "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update". Further down the list under User Configuration the Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update only lists 3 functions but, again, no option to "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update". Help/About says I'm using Management Console 3.0
Maybe also take an image of W7, just in case W10 would be installed by accident. Restore the image and W10 is gone.
I don't know what "Management Console" is, but are you using "W7 PRO"? (I'm not expert on Windows, so I don't know what to tell you. However, the "Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update". is in all of my machines' Group Policy Editor options.) What you're saying comes as no surprise. Often I've tried to follow some link instructions only to find the "option" doesn't exist on my machine, and I have no explanation as to why.
Not to suggest you should put W10 on your machine (I won't) but there's always the option of running a VM. My trading software was last compatible with XP and I regularly run it in a VM, not a major hassle.
