I use VWAP as a benchmark of price through the trading day or through the period I am trading. If you can consistently beat VWAP, it still doesn't mean that you are generating a positive PnL, just FYI. Traders at banks and hedge funds use VWAP to see how efficient they are in filling orders and limiting market impact.
