http://news.wjct.org/post/voting-rights-restored-14-million-ex-felons-florida Voting Rights Restored for 1.4 Million Ex-Felons in Florida By John Davis • 13 hours ago A constitutional amendment took effect, Tuesday, that automatically restores the voting rights of some 1.4 million Florida residents with past felony convictions. While many ex-felons are celebrating by registering to vote at their county supervisor of elections offices, how the administration of newly-sworn in Governor Ron DeSantis will respond, remains to be seen. Amendment Four automatically restores the voting rights of former felons, or ‘returning citizens’ as they prefer to be called, who have completed all terms of their sentence and who were not convicted of murder or a felony sex offense. The amendment overturns an 1868 Florida law that banned residents with felony convictions from automatically having their voting rights restored once their sentences are complete.
This and the misdemeanor pardons of weed offenders in Washington State are truly MAGA. They should pardon some non-violent felony offenses of weed too (3rd strikers for instance).
It worked really well for Democrats in Virginia(Dems won the Governors race by 9 and Senate race by 15 after Terry McAuliffe restored ex felon voting rights there)I'm hoping for similar in FL. Gotta start working on restoring ex felon voting rights in NC now that y'all have a democrat governor.
Yeah -- since the biggest political scandal in our state was when the Feds convicted and locked up over twenty Democrats including the head of the legislature, governor, secretary of agriculture, and others. It is after all what brought the Republicans to power in our state in 2010 after over 100 years of Democratic majority rule. Wouldn't be surprised if our Democratic governor wants all these Democratic criminals will have their voting rights restored. However the Republican majority state legislature will never pass this.
Seeing that the legislature in NC strictly controls initiatives that go on the ballot.... it seems very unlikely.
If I'm not mistaken the gop only has a 10 seat lead. Maybe y'all can change that in 2020.The 2020 wave will be even bigger than the 2018 wave.
