An Open Letter From Technology Sector Leaders On Donald Trump’s Candidacy For President
Trump would be a disaster for innovation.

    07/14/2016 10:15 am 10:15:1
Alec Ross Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Johns Hopkins University; Author, ‘The Industries of the Future’

"We are inventors, entrepreneurs, engineers, investors, researchers, and business leaders working in the technology sector. We are proud that American innovation is the envy of the world, a source of widely-shared prosperity, and a hallmark of our global leadership.

"We believe in an inclusive country that fosters opportunity, creativity and a level playing field. Donald Trump does not. He campaigns on anger, bigotry, fear of new ideas and new people, and a fundamental belief that America is weak and in decline. We have listened to Donald Trump over the past year and we have concluded: Trump would be a disaster for innovation. His vision stands against the open exchange of ideas, free movement of people, and productive engagement with the outside world that is critical to our economy—and that provide the foundation for innovation and growth.

"Let’s start with the human talent that drives innovation forward. We believe that America’s diversity is our strength. Great ideas come from all parts of society, and we should champion that broad-based creative potential. We also believe that progressive immigration policies help us attract and retain some of the brightest minds on earth—scientists, entrepreneurs, and creators. In fact, 40 percent of Fortune 500 companies were founded by immigrants or their children. Donald Trump, meanwhile, traffics in ethnic and racial stereotypes, repeatedly insults women, and is openly hostile to immigration. He has promised a wall, mass deportations, and profiling.

"We also believe in the free and open exchange of ideas, including over the Internet, as a seed from which innovation springs. Donald Trump proposes “shutting down” parts of the Internet as a security strategy ― demonstrating both poor judgment and ignorance about how technology works. His penchant to censor extends to revoking press credentials and threatening to punish media platforms that criticize him.

"Finally, we believe that government plays an important role in the technology economy by investing in infrastructure, education and scientific research. Donald Trump articulates few policies beyond erratic and contradictory pronouncements. His reckless disregard for our legal and political institutions threatens to upend what attracts companies to start and scale in America. He risks distorting markets, reducing exports, and slowing job creation.

"We stand against Donald Trump’s divisive candidacy and want a candidate who embraces the ideals that built America’s technology industry: freedom of expression, openness to newcomers, equality of opportunity, public investments in research and infrastructure, and respect for the rule of law. We embrace an optimistic vision for a more inclusive country, where American innovation continues to fuel opportunity, prosperity and leadership.

There has got to be something wrong, "something going on" with all these business people, if they don't like Drumpf.
I'm not going to say what that is, I'll let people decide.

wrong for silicon valley is not being able to arbitrage american labor particularly engineers into working for half of what they would be working for in absence of the H1B tech sweat shops we see here in San Diego and silicon valley.

you said you were in favor of labor type communist. how can you be defending this crap for the democrats driving labor's wages and rights down?

Why is up to the conservatives and libertarians to defend Union workers and labor?

Why are you lefties allowing democrats to screw the base so hard?

You have the stupidest arguments. These business leaders are against Drumpf. Drumpf is a republican. Therefore they must be democrats. They support cheap labor. Therefore democrats support cheap labor. Dumb dumb dumb.

  5. In politics this is what is often called an astroturf movement. It is meant to appear to be grassroots but is actually run by some consultants working for a campaign.

Anyway, we hardly need a letter from a bunch of people no one has ever heard of to know that Silicon Valley generally hates the rest of the country and is unpatriotic. Not when we have the examples of Apple, FB, GOOG et al. The CEO of Apple for example, a prominent homosexual, toadies up to china and a host of repressive countries but gets his back up when asked to help decode a phone used by a terrorist who murdered a roomful of people in California.

you are a lefty living in Canada. Of course you don't understand how some one living in CA would recognize many of the names or the companies on the list. Some of them were from some of the companies whose leaders were part of the Obama tech circle or who have already come out in support for more immigration for cheap labor.

not only did I recognize some of the names and companies... but, I have learned things by reading...

I know it hurts your weltanschauung up there Canada... but you team has become the team of the oligarchs not the workers.

    http://www.businessinsider.com/silicon-valley-overhauling-democratic-party-2015-11

"This new tech Democratic wing is erasing the Republicans' monopoly of being the pro-business party.

The tech lobby is a far bigger fan of the Democratic Party, since the industry relies heavily on governmental support for education, research, and immigration. The communications industry has now eclipsed labor unions as one of the largest donors to liberal candidates".

As a result, on nearly every major issue, the Democratic Party leadership sides with the tech industry whenever they conflict with labor unions.
