I'm guessing part of the reason Off Topic posts in the Trading threads don't get deleted is due to work load and costs involved in doing it ie. Moderator time and Wages. I'm just as guilty of getting involved in some of the Banter, but what about some Volunteer Moderators whose sole purpose is to delete or move off Topic posts from the Trading threads. Someone like @Overnight is on here after hours, could be such a Candidate couldn't he? It'd clean up a lot of the Off Topic posts in Trading threads.
You are going to get funny answers. You will end up with a few thousand volunteer moderators. @Overnight as moderator?!?! He hates blockers (and deleters ....).
Absolutely not. I would not do anything of the sort on a volunteer basis. I have done that in the past on other forums and the net ROI was less than zero. Baron and I have discussed what role I might be able to play here on a paid-basis, and it came down to something about the educational resources section. But he said that hinged on the October 2022 upgrade of the forum, which has not yet happened.
Just need reputable people or processes Baron can trust/rely on, it'd clean up a lot of good Trading threads.
I see a lot of repeat offenders that create off-topic threads or post off-topic messages in the trading threads. Some do it accidentally while others do it intentionally because there's more scrutiny when they post those off-topic threads/messages in the Politics/Chit Chat threads. Regardless, the repeat offenders imply to me that their messages are deleted or threads moved without ET management communicating with them to tell them where the designated sections of the forum are for messages like that. Yet, if ET management is communicating with them and they continue...that's when a temporary ban should be given. Then if they keep doing it... a permanent ban is merited. With that said, indirectly, there are volunteer moderators to alert ET management. It's that "report" button below each message and feedback section. Yet, an official few volunteers in problematic areas of the forum or assigned to monitor specific posters that the volunteers can then send message posts and threads for review or have the ability to designate the thread/message post "under review"...another member can not reply/quote until Magna/Baron clears it after review and removes the "under review"... Similar to being in a "queue" (waiting) although visible to other members. wrbtrader
That is basically a fully-moderated forum, where all posts must stay under "review" before they can be seen, and that would just be a huge blockage on the whole forum. I am sure that is not Baron's vision for the site. After 25 years of it, I am sure Baron has his mind set on which direction the site would go, and full-moderation with "all posts reviewed before they are displayed" is not one of those visions.
Educational resources??? What are you going to teach us, @Overnight? Futures? Futures trading?? I would definitely sign up for that, for sure.
