Moving averages are only useful in trending markets whichever kind you choose, obviously there are some that are more responsive than others but they still work the same way. I've worked with EMA, VMA, SWMA, AMA, RMA ... and they all have their own little advantages and disadvantages. Try fooling around with them, you might find something that fits your strategy.
