Let's be real here. I believe the pandemic was much much greater of a fear driven market collapsing situation than the tarriffs are... To be honest the tarriffs can't even compare to the market behavior and environment we were in, in 2020.....we literally shut down the world.. when those circuit breakers hit it was a moment of no return but the funny thing is, is that the pandemic low only lasted a month or 2...when we started to rally off the lows I truly thought it was going to be short and quick and that the drop would continue. Looking back no one expected the sizeable rally we had, it was mostly contributed to the fed printing trillions of dollars. This tarriffs situation is not going to have the fed printing trillions of dollars, all Trump wants is the fed to cut rates to 0% ...

So back to the vix. It closed at a multi year high, we could spike to 50 60 and even 100 but I'm sure the ones watching the vix will know the short term bottom may be in place as early as this week however the trend is still down....

2020 – On March 16, the VIX closed at 82.69, the highest level since its inception in 1990

  2. The covid plunge was 35.41 % down in 23 trading days in sheer panic. Both 2022 and 2025 up until this Thursday have been fairly calm, although trading lower.

This week closed in panic mode, though. Should be fun to see if Friday was a climax or if the pace picks up and continues in the week to come.

The lowest fear/greed index ever was in Sept 2008 with reading of 12. The following 5 months the stock market dropped 48%. On Friday we hit a new extreme fear low of 4.

The VIX went from 28 to 171 in 4 days. Amazingly the VIX was above 100 for 8 straight days.

I ain't sure what to make of this VIX thing. That was back in 1987. That's like pre-internet, pre-algos, and pre-pajama warriors moving the market from their bedroom. WTF!

The last time the bears got this gleeful was summer/fall 2022. I would point that Trade Wars were a choice that can be undone at the whim of one man or some of the Republicans if they want to have any chance of being elected next time. Of course, that man just ignored the world and went golfing which is of course the danger in electing an old man who doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself.
