Vitamin/nutrient scam claims about actual content in supplements

  1. I would like to see RFK Jr. clean this up.

I am somewhat of a free market laissez-faire type when it comes to supplements . That is to say I don't think the government should be picking and choosing whether consumers should have access. But I do think there is a fundamental role for government to set some basic rules about content and disclosure of content in supplements. That includes actual content of the intended ingredient plus disclosures of fillers, other ingredients, heavy metals etc.

It is not that difficult to fix. The government identifies a list of qualified independent labs and all supplements must be subject to - say, arrive at the right number- randomly tested twice a year. And results must be on file and available to consumers. WHAT'S FRIGGING WRONG WITH THAT?

Anyway, just to piss you off and get your juices going. I offer up this little video on astaxanthin - but substitute your supplement of choice.

I will summarize the video in this way: JEEZUZZ H!

Now, as always, one can make the argument that this dude is just - in the end- pushing his own selection and somehow gets a cut or that the "trusted" supplement companies are just presenting bogus lab tests that their cousin in Pakistan did. Fine. A valid point but it just make the same argument doesn't it? It needs to be a standardized testing entity that is under the oversight and accountability of the government. You know like they do for food and drugs. duh. I mean, there is no loss of liberty to require the government to stop fraud. Au contraire, that is one of the fundamental duties that they should tend to.

RFK, Jr. fix this. Thanking you in advance. You don't need to find any funds to fix it. The supplement companies pay for their own testing, and government oversight can be paid for by taking the funds that are currently being used to pay for sodas, jujy fruits, and milk duds in the food stamp program. Yeh, we know. Thousands and thousands of people are dependent on milk duds to survive and I am a Nazi but tough choices must be made. Plus, fraudsters should be prosecuted or at least pay consent decree fines for violations and those funds committed to promoting more disclosure/compliance in the industry, duh.
