  3. There was a Hacker News thread recently that I found interesting, it was comparing gun ownership and violent crime using guns in the US vs The World. Unfortunately I can't find it right now, will post the link if I can find it.

Anyways, while correlated with the number of guns per capita, the violent crime rate places US closer to failed 3'rd world "states" than the civilized world, say Switzerland.

  4. Psaki says root cause of organized retail crime is the COVID-19 pandemic

I'll take the undocumented and the looters over redhat kids shooting up schools with daddy's "I'm glad I'm well armed" gun.

  7. US data points to about 3.5% / 100,000 of gun owners using them to commit homicide. No other developed world comes even close to that number. Romania's number is close but looking at similar countries, the numbers vary wildly and the quant in me says it's a just statistical noise due to division by zero. You need gun ownership in the reasonable high double digit so that homicide rate / guns owned becomes relevant.

Nevertheless, US - Romania - Japan, gun ownership drops by a factor of 10 and so does violent homicide by firearms. The data points to correlation if not causation.

  8. Yeh. well you can't really put the politics aside because the people elected clowns who thought that the best way to reduce crime is to legalize everything. Nothing changes until you change clowns or have the current ones worried about upcoming elections. There is plenty of worrying going on right now but they should not be let off the hook. Frigging Gavin Newsome is out there now talking like Mr. Law and Order. Gimme a break. The only reason he is doing that is because his little political windsock tells him that things have changed and the chaos is a liability for his 2024 presidential race. Whereas just a very short time ago, he and Kamala types were out cheering for the looters and donating to bail bond funds.

Now, you are probably thinking, "okay, well you are just beating your gums but the whole country will look like Mogadishu by the time all that is sorted out." Correct. Elections have consequences and it is going to get worse domestically and internationally before it gets better, if ever.

  9. You should ask a criminal what personal pronoun they prefer before just outright referring to them as "misunderstoon men." CMON MAN. "misunderstood they" Have you learned nothing?
