Baron, we have a member here, or non member I should say who has openly admitted twice now that she is posting under an account of another user. I see no reason why she can't take 5 seconds to register her own username like all other 40k previous aliases of this site has done. Of course I have a sneaking suspicion the account is the original male who is masquerading as a female for some sick twisted reason. Either way, I believe it's a violation of the member conduct rules. I know the standards are low around here, but posting actively under another user's account makes it impossible to know who you are talking in terms of a streaming dialogue. There is absolutely no reason why she/he can't register this "alternative" personality under another user like all the other multiple personality users on this board who pretend to be other people.

Magna, feel free to respond as well. This charade has been going on for over two years. And it's not just in P&R but in the trading forums as well.

Mav, you've got a strange one here to say the least. While one person is definitely restricted from using multiple aliases (I checked, trendlover has never done that) it's difficult to address possible multiple users logging into the same account. For instance, if you gave someone else your login name and login password. The risk at that point would be yours in that they might embarrass you by posting something completely contrary to what you feel is appropriate.

As far as the TOU the closest I can see as a violation is:
"you are not to... post... any content... that... impersonates any person or entity"

But that rule is directed at someone claiming to be someone else ie, posting as if they are, say, Jim Cramer from Mad Money when they are not. In the case you cite it's not really the same and would take some serious gyrations to make it apply. I suggest putting him/her on Ignore and never look back.

Personally I don't have a problem with this user. But can you ask them to simply register their own account? I don't understand why they would not simply have their own user. I mean I get how on some rare occasion someone's wife let's say wants to post under their husbands account but doesn't want to go through the 2 minutes of effort to register an account. But for someone to post for 3 or 4 years? I noticed the posting change seemed to have occurred in 2009. She has over 1000 posts. Why not simply ask her to register in private and find out what her reasons are for not?

Technically there is some liability here "if" this poster were to engage in slander or libel and you legally can't go after them because the account is not in their name. I don't think you could legally hold the original account holder responsible for that. But it opens up a huge can of worms. Users could offer out their aliases in theory to someone who wanted to personally attack another user or vendor.

I think at least check with this user and find out what the deal is. I mean they have openly admitted it three times now that it's not their account so it's not an accusation. It's a fact.

  5. Isn't trendlover Mike Covel? I always thought it was his alter ego or girlfriend. Remember a different set of rules apply to sponsors--- nothing wrong with this-- no need to get bent out of shape, Mav

Surf, it's definitely NOT Mike Covel. The handle has nothing to do with trends or trend following.

  7. I am nearly 100% convinced its Mike Covel, or a close associate.

How can trendlover have nothing to do with trends?

I know the original user. I use to chat with him. This "female" user who claims to be using his account spends 90% of her time in P&R verbally attacking other users and slandering Zimmerman. Not that I give two shits about that. But I seriously doubt a guy who spends 99% of his life hocing trend following is wasting his time posing as a women posting relentlessly about the Zimmerman trial and attacking other users. And she gets a free pass because, well, it's not her account.

Either way, it's someone posting under a username, not a real name, so does really matter what the alias is?

True but they are admitting to posting under an alias that is NOT theirs. I just think if we are going to ban people for using multiple aliases I don't see how this is that different. I actually think it's worse. You can legally go after an alias. But in this case, if this woman slanders a member of this site and you go after the alias, you are going after a guy who no longer posts here and who did not commit the slander. It gives her a free pass to go after real people with no consequences. And it sets a bad precedent for future users who now know there is a nice loophole.

I'm not asking to throw her in gitmo, just a friendly PM and see why she can't take one minute to register and use her own alias.
