On mobile/tablet devices, the present format with the left sidebar controls and the right sidebar ads squish the content into a small middle region that's difficult to read without re-sizing the screen when viewing all the forum posts. This is the biggest issue. I also liked being able to see some stats on the posters without having to look them up each individually (post count or date joined), which are now not displayed in the new thread view.
Try it now and let me know if that's better. Sorry, that's not going to happen. A single click on a username is all you have to do to find out that basic info for any user.
No change in the formatting from what I'm seeing. Right now I'd say between the controls on the left (which I use very rarely) and the ads on the right (which I click on never), 40% of my screen width is wasted. And when I scroll down, that big chunk of space where the ads were is just empty rather than being able to display longer thread titles or more information compactly. Putting the control bar on the top might be better. I don't know if others use it more, but if not, it's low priority and could be put at the top (without being pinned as you scroll down), so it's more out of the way. As for user stats, you had them before presumably because either people liked them, you thought they were useful, or they rewarded better posters with status that encouraged them to participate. None of these are good reasons for removing them. You've got a giant empty bar across the whole page next to the name/avatar where you could put them and it's wasted as it is now.
What device are you using and what is the screen resolution on it? And regarding the member stats you are referring to, I will take your feedback under serious consideration.
Wrong approach in my opinion. You can put up stupid avatars but not useful info? Seriously, you need to ask yourself a question: Are you doing this for your own reasons or to make it better for users? The beauty of ET was that it was simple, elegant and intuitive. Now it clunky and apparently filled with hidden pitfalls, like the privacy and online status indicators. Why are the defaults basically no privacy and why wouldn't you notify users that they have to change those settings?
Baron - I'm not sure when things changed, later today after my earlier post things changed. the updated version on my tablet (ipad) is much better now without the sidebar ads messing with the formatting.
I agree ! bring back the stats !.. join date, post count, location, gender, likes, .................. I looked at them (for a split second) before reading the post, every time !
agree, a preference setting for user profile to be displayed with member name is a desired feature. Join date and post count as a minimum. Gender, age, location is not important. But identifying multi-nick aliases who recently joined and may be trolling is. How many posts start out from 1 post member's with: Hi, my name is, I want to, please answer this question. Then never have the courtesy to reply or thank the posters who spent the time to help them. Then there is the other extreme, 1 year member 4,000 post Chatty Cathy. And finally, the long time member who has contributed regularly neither troll or leech. It is just an easy way to determine the nature of the poster. Without the need to click on each user
