User SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS To Improve NEW LOOK ET

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by Alpha Trader, Aug 14, 2014.

  1. With the roll-out of the new look ET, there seems to be plenty of suggestions on what can be done to improve user functionality. Please feel free to post your suggestions/recommendations here. It may be an easier option to "follow this thread" (at least initially), then to go searching all over the place.

Once followed, it should bring up timely alerts, which may help in guiding us all along this new path of discovery into the new uber-cool features that the new look ET has incorporated. It should also allow communication between users (and also moderators) to flow efficiently.

  2. The first thing that I can think of is to have the page number option located at the top of the page between the ad. and the 1st post. It saves on having to scroll all the way to the bottom to choose what page one wants to arrive at.

  3. If we're talking convenience, it would also be more functional to have the number bar on the right hand side of the page as it saves having to scroll all the way to the left side to go to the next page.

The "Go to First Unread" feature is nice as it brings you to where you left off.

  5. Is it possible to have the User/member stats next to their name (in the blue bar above the post)?

    This could include:

    - Date joined
    - Total posts
    - Last post
    - Number of "likes"
    - Location

Page numbers at the top won't happen.

The side of the page that the navigation numbers will likely end up on will be neither on the left nor the right..... but in the middle.

Date joined, number of posts, and location are all primitive and outdated ways of assessing the quality of a user. I do plan on implementing some stats on the user bar for each post, but the two main stats that will be displayed are:
    1. Number of Likes
    2. Number of followers
There will be a third metric in play but I don't want to talk about that too much at this time because it's based on a proprietary algorithm.

  8. Having the numbers in the middle was going to be the alternate suggestion. It does keep up with the alignment and allows the "follow thread" tab to be where it is ATM. I think this is a decent solution.

Just out of curiosity, is there a particular reason you may be opposed to the page numbers being on top as well?

As I explained on another thread, if you do a search on Google, or any other popular web sites, none of them provide pagination at the top of the page for the results that they give you, and I mean none of them. I don't blame them because it just makes no logical sense whatsoever. Why would you want to skip past a page that you haven't even scrolled down and read yet? I mean, think about it. The whole point is, "Ok, I've scanned everything on this page and none of this is what I'm looking for, so let me click onto the next page. "

  10. That is a nice little combo FB/TWTR touch! I agree that it makes a lot of sense in determining the quality of the poster.

Do you think location could be added as this may allow to determine who is local and lead to potential face-face meet ups.

Also, there may be value in adding the instrument traded by the user to allow the "following" feature to be utilized more efficiently.
