The USD Department of Justice seized 280 cryptocurrency accounts confiscating millions in USD that were connected to North Korean hackers.

The DOJ released a statement but did not clarify what were the cryptocurrency accounts, nor where did they exists in the virtual space.

The statement did clarify, however, that the hackers were laundering millions of USD in stolen funds and were linked to Chinese OTC (over the counter) trading platforms.

Briian C. Rabbitt, the acting assistant attorney general of the Department’s Criminal Division, also issued a statement:

today’s action publicly exposes the ongoing connections between North Korea’s cyber-hacking program and a Chinese cryptocurrency money laundering network.”

This is pretty damning information but it is also not exactly surprising, North Korea and China are well-known for having tight connections.

China's connections with North Korea are no secret, so I can't say this is surprising.

Reading this just makes me want to buy more crypto. Seeing how governments are using crypto to crack down on terrorist organizations, unlike the way they can't crack down with paper money, which is also used for various other criminal activities such as ransom, money landering, and much more like counterfeiting ( which counterfeiting is something that will never happen with crypto.) And the government will never endorse crypto because then they themselves would be exposed to their own corruption. It's very good to see a money system that actually helps people and exposes bad criminal activity.

Accounts on exchanges? They should have put the crypto in wallets. The accounts must have been on western exchanges as they coudn’t have been in China.

True, crypto trading is banned in China. Then again, do the rules apply to the ones in power?

  5. We are dependent on the media for information regarding this. Who knows the real truth? We never will. Anybody who does know would be afraid to share...

The media only repeats what the official reports say. With operations like this, that's as much as the wide public can know.
