Politicians including those from El Salvador must
    have some trading experiences.

Then they can better comprehend the Tulipmania thing.

If you are wondering how members of Congress have net worths of $150-$250 million on their salaries, this is one of the ways they enrich themselves. Congressmen and Senators just buy stock on companies with business before Congress----obvious, conflict of interest there but, nothing to see here per Nancy Pelosi. To be fair, Republicans also, engaged in the practice. There are more than one 60 minutes segment on insider trading by members of Congress which continues unabated. None of the regulatory agencies doing their jobs on the insider trading. Not a single member of Congress investigated at all or even charged? Nancy Pelosi should be at the top of the list because she admits it in public. That should be evidence right there and her trading records. FBI and DOJ does not care but, they will prosecute the January 6 rioters, file numerous charges and give them stiff prison sentences? And people wonder why members of Congress have the lowest approval ratings?

Politicians are happy to regulate and restrict...except when it comes to their own personal dealings.

    • In just equities, Congress bought and sold nearly $290 million throughout the year.
It's actually not as much as might seem. Even I traded a good chunk of that amount in equities and I'm no big fish. Actual capital invested is likely a very small fraction of that figure mentioned.

This is not to say all congress members are clean and never cheat the system, the probably aren't. Those numbers just make the issue seem way bigger than it is. I'm sure there are individual members of this forum who's personal trading volume exceed all of that congress' combined.

The bigger issue is insider trading which you or I if we were engaged in it, we would be charged for it and get jail time including, huge fines. Public service is a public trust and these corrupt politicians have violated securities laws which they should have been charged with. In addition, that insider information will allow them to amass huge sums in the "hundreds of millions" easily with little risk and that is not chump change. So, are we just to excuse these politicians like royalty with us their slaves? Does not pass the smell test and the word "unethical" applies to these politicians.
