Ukraine Should Ideally Become Neutral State, Ex-US Secretary of State Kissinger Says

WASHINGTON, May 23 (Sputnik) - The Ukraine crisis would ideally result in the transformation of Ukraine into a neutral bridge state between Russia and Europe, former US Secretary of State and veteran foreign policy scholar Henry Kissinger said at the World Economic Forum summit in Davos on Monday.

"About eight years ago, when the idea of membership of Ukraine in NATO came up, I wrote an article in which I said that the ideal outcome would be if Ukraine could be constituted as a neutral kind of state, as a bridge between Russia and Europe," Kissinger said. "I think that opportunity does not now exist in the same manner, but it could still be conceived as an ultimate objective."

The former Secretary of State said movement toward peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine needs to begin within the next two months or so.

And how does that work? Ukraine says "ok, we'll stay neutral". Meanwhile Russia will just wait and prepare for another attack. Ukraine can't do anything but sit and wait for it.
Remember, when Ukraine gave up its nukes, both Russia and Europe promised to protect Ukrainian territorial integrity. Any kind of agreement with Russia is completely worthless.

I totally agree with you but Ukraine should do whatever Ukraine wants to do. But anyone denying the Russian war machine is just going to stop moving west is lying to themselves.

The Russian war machine, as you put it, can barely take a few cities in the Ukraine. That they might "move west" like some militaristic juggernaut is just silly.

  5. I see. Well, not sayin that the article you wrote eight years ago is not special Henry but let's think of what else happened eight years ago. Oh that's right. Russia seized Crimea.

So let's process this together. Eight years ago Russia seizes Crimea and you advocated that Ukraine should become a neutral country. Then fast forward to 2022, and surprise, surprise Russia turns a good part of Ukraine into a parking lot and now surprise, surprise you think the solution is for Ukraine to become a neutral country. Maybe it is Russia that needs to be neutralized.

    IDIOT INCARNATE!!!!

I think the point is that if Russia is allowed any leeway, they will keep moving west. Ukraine is in this situation only because they're not part of NATO. Russia wanted to do the same to Estonia in 2007, NATO membership was the only thing that saved the country.

This idea that Russia would respect any neutrality is just silly. I've lived among Russians most of my life and they only respect brute force, anything else is considered weakness to be taken advantage of. Russia as a country is exactly the same. It's also good to read how Russia became as big as it did. Russian folklore tells it as them spreading to Siberia and being welcomed. The reality however is is far more brutal. Eastern Russia is littered with bodies throughout centuries, all part of the great Muscovite expansion.

These totally racist statements are obviously OK now. You cannot really talk about all Russians or blacks or Canadians like that. And there are other racists here too. They liked your statement. The war propaganda machine is working well on all people, even if they seem smart and comprehensive.
