I think these are piecemeal solutions. Until we acknowledge that the real issue is a living wage, not a minimum wage, this issue, just like healthcare, will be with us and get worse ad-infinitum. If you want UBI, just live off your credit cards....it's the same concept. You get money now and have to pay it back later.
Yes great idea, UBI. Typical advanced thinking from the economic geniuses at Bernie Inc. First off, let's just acknowledge that politicians are far more knowledgeable about local labor markets than employers who are actually having to go into the market and hire people. Anyway, employers are evil and mainly white, so screw them. So raise the minimum wage and shame employers who cut back hiring. Maybe pass a law to ban robots as well or force each business to have a minimum number of employees per dollar of revenue. Next, ignore the fact that a UBI and open borders is possibly the most idiotic combination of policies possible. After all, the Lazarus poem on the Statue of Liberty basically requires us to take care of the world. Anyway, most dem voters don't pay taxes anyway, so rich white republicans will be paying for it, just like with Obamacare. Win-win. Given how successful socialism has been around the world, I am impatient for us to get with it and stop punishing people just because they choose not to work. If congress won't act, maybe the Ninth Circuit will.
