This has been going on for a few months, futures quotes (CME/CBOT/NYMEX) are getting backed up anywhere from 10-30 seconds on my booktraders on any significant news release. It's like trading blind - you see a price and it's already 10 ticks away. It was very apparent on CPI today. Anyone know what's going on? The "snapshot" quotes they had for years always avoided this problem.
You cannot trust brokers data it is simple like that, because it is not their primary business to deliver error free, stable and fast realtime data. You need to have an extra (reputable) data subscription for fast realtime data (like for example IQ feed which is very affordable and outstanding for its subscription cost).
Why not open up a message to IB and post this question where it can be responded to by one of the IB reps?
The “Snapshot” isn’t meant to deliver continuous real-time quotations. It’s meant to deliver, once per click, quotes (Bid / Ask) on demand. For continuous accuracy and reliably, it’s better to subscribe for additional data feeds.
nothing abnormal. There are some brokers and charting s/w that are much worse. those could freeze for half an hour!!! solution : 1. Simply don't trade when there is very heavy traffic. 2. go get a place in a specialized trading house that provides a high-speed connection to the Exchange. Go get a high-end trading platform (eg TT). It will cost a few thousand dollars / month.
So you have a data lag. I can barely even login with their flaky 2FA system. Often after several attempts I manage to get in, only to get logged off.
IB gives prices every 250 ms. This was called a snapshot before IB introduced a snapshot when you click for people who do not have real-time data. Confusing.
Try their EventTrading platform you'll see what I mean. But you're probably right it might be time to retire - I'm squinting closeup to read their key card these days!
You can change the 2FA to a notification on your smart phone, if you have one. After you register for 2FA on the phone you can toss that dumb key card in the trash.
