TWS limit order to buy one YM contract didn't execute

I sold one YM contract around 10:30 am today, and then when tried to buy back for about $300 profit 20 minutes later, the limit order didn't execute even though the market bid went below my bid price. After waiting for 6-7 seconds (usually it's instantaneous), I canceled the limit order, because I didn't feel comfortable with why it was taking that long. Then tried placing 2-3 more limit orders (not at the same time), and even market orders, but each of the orders simply didn't execute although I waited several seconds. I of course canceled each one of them before placing a new limit order.

Finally I called IB, and then after what seemed like 5-10 minutes, spoke with their Trading Desk, which put in a market order to sell which executed, fortunately at small $ profit.

IB could not explain why my limit or market orders didn't fill, they looked at their records and said I had placed the orders correctly. The rep said the volume could have been low, but when the market bid goes below your buy limit, it's hard to understand why the limit order didn't fill for one contract. I've been with IB trading futures for more than 10 years, and haven't seen this ever happen. Have you experienced anything similar?

Yes. Disorderly market. It happens when things are moving fast. Even Mkt order will not execute immediately. However a bit surprised because today was not that crazy.

Next time check the TWS status. Make sure the order is "working" on the exchange. Make sure you have a true green status. Hard to say what happened without knowing the status sequences as described below.

Yesterday the market was not very hot.
But be prepared for latency problems.

When the market is very hot until the metal melts,
Your trade wouldn't be executed at all and you wouldn't be able to call the Trading Desk.

Why the fuck would you sell into a bull market the day after the election results? Don't you remember 2016?

    Holy shit people are stupid.

Yes. This is not the time to do it, you dumb-fuck.

The Fed just lowered rates by another quarter-point.

Don't fight the Fed, you live longer.

We wouldn't have a market if everyone bought and none sold.
...and OP made a profit on the trade.

  9. Just because you're angry and frustrated from consistently losing for years and years doesn't mean you have to resort to name-calling.
