I'm considering opening an account with IB and I'd like to know if TWS is able to show the Option Greeks in real time for your positions, so I can do gamma scalping? TIA
TWS does show options greeks, however, there is a huge limitation that's been bothering me for a while - they don't compute gamma & theta for puts and calls of the same maturity / strike separately, reporting same values for calls and puts of same strike. Not sure why they do that, given IB is considered a major player in options markets. It's not a problem for vega, since put and call will have the same value, but for gamma and theta it's not necessarily the case.
ThinkOrSwim has very good tools for options trading if you are ok to trade manually (w/o API), it has greeks, risk analysis, probability etc... Probably one of the best for retail traders, and no data fees, commissions are much higher then at IB though.
Yeah, Iâve been w/amtd for over 8yrs; and using TOS for about 1yr, and I like its Options analytics and bunch of other features; however, Iâve had too many issues with the TOS platform, donât want to bore you w/my whining, suffice it to say the release on mid Feb â14, was the last straw that broke the camelâs back.
In the options chains provided by OptionsHouse, you can select all Greeks for both puts and calls (see image). I just glanced at some sample data and there were some slight variances between the Ps and Cs , which I believe is what you're looking for. Caveat: It's after hours and things are not yet settled. You might want to talk to them or sign up for a free demo with real time quotes.
FYI, this is not the case anymore, this image is from TWS beta 946 (I've added extra greek columns to main page and new option selector to demonstrate this point) https://download2.interactivebrokers.com/mc/opt_greeks.png
