Trump’s Border Wall Is Finally Dead - Mexico didn't pay and neither did anyone else

Trump’s border wall died once again when the White House backed off from the president’s threats last week to shut down the government if he didn’t get the funding for it.

However, the wall actually died last fall when Trump bungled his only real chance to secure the funding in a deal with Democrats. Those spending negotiations offered Trump the chance to cut a deal with Senate Democrats by giving them some of their own immigration priorities, such as protections for the Dreamers.

But Trump — the self-described “master negotiator” — asked for too much and got nothing instead.

    As Jonathan Bernstein points out:

And so it’s gone, for almost two years. The White House doesn’t have the organization or discipline to push anything to the top of the congressional agenda and keep it there. Trump hasn’t demonstrated competent bargaining skills; he asks for the impossible, lashes out at allies and opponents, fails to grasp where the votes are, doesn’t seem to know what the other players want that he can get them, and folds easily. His frequent idle threats only hurt his reputation and strengthen the resolve of those he deals with.

Trump now says he’ll find funding “one way or another” — except it doesn’t work that way. He can’t ask the military to the build the wall or divert funding from other agencies, although he’s suggested that’s what he’ll do. He even claims the wall is already being built, though that’s demonstrably not true.

The wall was never more than a soundbite on the campaign trail. Claims that Mexico was going to pay for it were laughably ridiculous. But Trump’s inability to follow through are now seriously undermining his power.

The government may or may not shutdown this week. But Trump’s bluster won’t get his wall funding. It only burnishes his reputation for being easily rolled.

President smarty pants thinks he can scrape together funding from other agencies and make the military build a wall.

You can’t make this stuff up. It really is like your drunk uncle is running the country.

Coulter has mocked Trump for being wishy-washy on the wall, and when contacted on Wednesday by The Daily Caller, the In Trump We Trust: E Pluribus Awesome! author suggested that his presidency could come to a premature demise as a result of inaction on this front.

“Either Trump never intended to build a wall and was scamming voters from the beginning or he hasn’t the first idea in how to get it done and no interest in finding out…My prediction is his support will evaporate and Trump will very likely not finish his term and definitely not be elected to a second term.”

Trump is no longer following Ann Coulter on Twitter “after the conservative firebrand declared she would no longer support his re-election if no progress has been made on the border wall by 2020,” The Hill reports.

Coulter told the Daily Caller that Trump’s presidency was “a joke” that will leave “no legacy whatsoever.”

  10. I highly doubt Anne cares so much about the Wall when so many other promises/claims were lies...just a reason to put herself front and center again
