Trump vs Apple

  1. I don't really understand it, But Trump says Apple won't give us the key to open this woman's cell phone, Who do they think they are?

But if that key is a skeleton key Donald, that means it could open every door on every piece of property you own

    am I right on that?

It's disinformation of some sort. Don't tell me the government can't get whatever it wants from any phone with a court order.

  4. they can get the phone, but so far they can't make the manufacturer hack it

  5. I see this one going all the way
    New scotus litmus test

And the deciding factor will be an apple consumer focus group

Like the man said, "The customer is always right."

I really like instances where top-tier values have to be weighed, and this case looks to be one, for freedom vs. safety. But one thing is not clear to me. The judge's order is for access to data on one phone, but Cook seems to be arguing as if complying means all Apple phones would then lose their security.

  7. If they give them the backdoor to one, they're afraid they will then have access to all. A legit concern, but I don't see why Apple can't access the one themselves and give up what they find on that one phone without giving any details of how they gained access.

EXACTLY! Of course a law enforcement official would have to be present and watching to preserve the chain of evidence.

Tech companies have regularly done as you have described above. Apple deserve no respect in the matter, the company is deliberately undermining national security and supporting terrorists.

The entire thing is a smokescreen of absurdity.

Even if it were true that the FBI cannot access an iphone running ios 8 or later it certainly does *not* imply that the US government cannot access an iphone configured similarly.

If there is anyone here who believes that the NSA cannot access an iphone running ios 8 or later please raise your hand.

Its baked in from the beginning. Every commercially available encryption schema on the planet is completely back-doored from the moment it is conceived by commercial arrangement or by clandestine arrangement or a combination of both. If you think Apple has some special encryption that the professionals at Ft. Meade cannot penetrate you need to consider that their *real* mission is penetrating military-grade encryption which they do all day every day with relative ease.

The commercial stuff is all a slam dunk lol.

They must be laughing their asses off over there.

No doubt, and you have to wonder how they keep China from accessing what gets assembled in their own country.
