Trump violates another Federal Law

Why Ben Carson’s appearance in Phoenix was likely a violation of federal law

    This article has been updated.

Right before Ben Carson took the stage at President Trump’s rally in Phoenix on Tuesday night, the announcer introduced him.

“The secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson,” the voice intoned, prompting cheers from the audience.

And, as simply as that, a law was likely broken.

There are a lot of ways in which the federal government could be used to reward political friends and allies, of course, appointments being just one example. But the power of the government can also be leveraged to political advantage. Imagine a candidate who appeared at a campaign rally to be endorsed by the heads of each branch of the armed forces, for example. That would carry a lot of weight.

In 1939, Franklin Roosevelt signed the Hatch Act into law, a measure meant to preserve the impartiality of public servants. “The law’s purposes,” the Office of Special Counsel’s website explains, “are to ensure that federal programs are administered in a nonpartisan fashion, to protect federal employees from political coercion in the workplace, and to ensure that federal employees are advanced based on merit and not based on political affiliation.”

  2. I did wonder if pyramid boy being there was a Hatch violation.

  3. Everything Trump does can be whittled down to two words: Self-Dealing

Whether it is ego, or money, or power, or .... the action is transnational, and always has to feed some narcissistic pathology.

One wonders how it is that the used don't see what a patsy they are.

  4. It is partially organic. They are just wired to follow the strongest leader, it is a tribal group thing with humans created by natural selection.

We tried to paper over that by creating a universal ideal of what men should be but..

You might find Harris' commentary in the opening few minutes of interest.

So sanction him just like they did to Obongo's HUD secretary.

"Carson’s predecessor as HUD Secretary, Julian Castro, was sanctioned by OSC for a Hatch Act violation under similar circumstances in 2016."

    lmao

  7. Of course. It is the same reason the same people that are attracted to Trump like flies to shit are also the same pious cult followers that reject science, and cling to organized religion to their death.

Give these people a tax cut, and you can put a big turd in front of them and they will trample over each other to follow.

  8. Oh Faith Hope & Love, we know, it was written in the quoted article.

Not that similar though, a response to an interview question vs. flying to an event with premeditated intent to speak politically?

The Office of Special Counsel wrote: "Although he stated during the interview that he was 'taking off my HUD hat for a second and just speaking individually,' to indicate he was answering questions in his personal capacity, that disclaimer could not negate the fact that he was appearing in his official capacity for the rest of the interview, as the official HUD seal remained behind him and his political comments were bracketed by statements concerning official HUD policies and programs."

President Donald Trump may have glanced up at the sun Tuesday without the recommended glasses, but he could apparently see well enough Thursday morning to post a meme about the solar eclipse. In the latest of his near-daily Twitter rants, Trump retweeted an image showing a colorized portrait of him moving in front of a black-and-white picture of Barack Obama. The caption read, "THE BEST ECLIPSE EVER!"

Within minutes, the meme had more than 2,800 retweets and 7,300 likes. But while Trump likely thought the photo manipulation was accurate because he was taking center stage over his predecessor, social media users quickly pointed out that the meme's scenario meant Obama was the sun.

"This is actually correct," read a comment by Ed Krassenstein, who was behind one of the tweet's top replies. "The Darkness of Trump has overtaken the brightness of Obama. The Sun is what gives us life and energy!"

    Replying to @SteveKopack

Well, it is scientifically accurate. Trump is blocking the light spread by Obama and bringing darkness to the earth.
