The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports, citing German government circles. The US president had offered the Tübingen-based biopharmaceutical company CureVac “large sums of money” to gain exclusive access to their work, wrote Die Welt.
President Trump aggressively pursuing means of pulling the right resources together from all around the world to develop a vaccine. If the germans are hot to trot and want to try to poach some american firms/resources. GO FOR IT. Probably Trump's actions alone will give the german's more incentive to clear obstacles for their own companies and to provide support. Good. That's all for the good. Every country should do that. There are dozens and dozens of American companies that ideas they want to implement right off, and I see that a Canadian firm has isolated and cultured the virus which will make future testing and experimentation much, much easier. Good. The Canadians should fully support them or else the Americans will just scoop them up as we do every day with innovative companies. It's all good. If you let the lefties have their way, we will be getting all of our health care and vaccine research down at the DMV. Not the way to go. I want to see a global fight to develop a vaccine. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!!
No. the chinese should try paying for what they want rather than stealing it. Can you spot the difference? Didn't think so. You and your ilk need to stick with what you are good at, which is praying for dead americans to further your political goals. I see that right on cue you are sticking up for the Chinese. The ones who brought you the Wuhan Virus which your lefty media now knows nothing about because. America= Bad. China = Good.
You just said it would be OK for the Germans to try to poach from American firms , I said the Chinese should not try to do the same , and you say ''I'm sticking up for the Chinese.'' So how am i sticking up for the Chinese ? The country would be better off if you and Trump stepped out of the way and left the crisis to the professionals who know what needs to be done and are already busy doing it. Only last week Trump said ''we are very very close to a vaccine'' , and if that is so why is he offering 'large sums of money' to the Germans? Doesn't he know that American companies have already spent large sums of their own money towards a vaccine ? You should take a break from gulping down that pino milk . . . . Tree and get rid of that silly tee-shirt . . . .
German tariffs incoming: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...-coronavirus-vaccine-for-us-only-report-says/ Trump reportedly offered $1B to poach coronavirus vax for US use only A vaccine made in Germany would be "for the whole world," health minister said. Scientists around the world are on the hunt for a vaccine to protect against novel coronavirus disease COVID-19—and apparently, the Trump administration has been trying to poach some of those scientists to make the United States first to market, should a vaccine successfully be developed. FURTHER READING Don’t Panic: The comprehensive Ars Technica guide to the coronavirus [Updated 3/16] German pharmaceutical firm CureVac since January has been researching a potential vaccine for countering the novel coronavirus that is grinding daily life in dozens of nations to a halt. Over the weekend, German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported US President Donald Trump offered CureVac about $1 billion to obtain the vaccine "only for the United States." The report also said Germany was trying to counter-offer. The offer "arose from a March 2 meeting" at the White House, The New York Times reported. President Trump as well as Vice President Mike Pence were in attendance for at least part of the meeting, as was CureVac CEO Daniel Menichella. Menichella in a statement the day of the meeting said, "We are very confident that we will be able to develop a potent vaccine candidate within a few months." The company has said elsewhere that it hopes to have an experimental product ready for human trials by June or July. Menichella himself suddenly announced his departure from the firm on March 11, after two years in the top chair.
