Trump administration rule could end free school lunches for about 500,000 children

About a half-million students could lose access to free school meals under a Trump administration proposal to limit the number of people who qualify for food stamps, drawing protests from congressional Democrats who say it could harm needy schoolchildren.

The change, proposed over the summer, would cut an estimated 3 million people from the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program. It is intended to eliminate eligibility for people who get food stamps because they have qualified for other forms of government aid, even though they may have savings or other assets.

But the impact of the cuts is anticipated to go further: Children in those households could also lose access to free school lunches, since food stamp eligibility is one way students can qualify for the lunches.

Yeah well, if their parents really gave a fuck.... you can send a kid to school with a healthy nutritional lunch that costs less than $1.50 if you're smart and not fucking lazy. Ditto breakfast.

Now I know you and you are gonna go ballistic on this post...
So I'll give you a real world example.
For 1 week (plus) of breakfast:

Loaf of Kroger whole wheat bread. $1
8 Pack of instant blueberry oatmeal. $1.29
    Gallon of 2% Milk. $1.79
    Bannanas.... $0.55/lb
Kroger large box of Crunchy Raisin Bran... $2.29
Kroger Creamy or Smooth (small) jar of peanut butter... $1.00
    Eggs.... $.89/dozen.

Right there is breakfast for less than $1/day. With variety, which in the bigger picture... is gravy too. A filling breakfast.

A pack of cigarettes is $8, weed is more. As are 40's and all the other bs. I don't want to hear about starving kids. If these kids are starving... its not the govt's fault nor its job... its about being a good parent and having a f'n clue. Putting your kids first.

Unfortunately.... obviously.... thats not the case. But don't tell me kids are starving because there's not enough money. That's bs.

    YES!!!! THAT's IT!

Parents too lazy or cheep to brown-bag their kids' lunches do not deserve food stamps for their kids' lunches, because they are already getting food stamps to buy the stuff they can use for their lunches! Why waste the food-stamp money on cafeteria prices, when you can make the shit at home for half the price?

I disagree on the milk thing though. It should be whole milk. These kids aren't getting enough calcium in their diets, which is why they get so bruised when someone tells them they are a pussy for coming in second place. Whole milk will make their backbones harder, so they can withstand LOSING once in a while.

Its all the same f'n price.
You missed the point. I'm not going to debate diet with you. You don't need instant oatmeal or Crunchy RB either.
There's tons of stuff. Regular oatmeal in the big round box and whole grain cereals w/o so much sugar.
    Point is... food is cheap.

No, I got the point. You can send a kid to school with a cheap brown bag lunch without having to get it from the school.

    Pfff.... come on dude. bfd.

    Boneless/skinless chicken breasts.... $1.79/lb.
Do you know how much shredded barbecue chicken you can make when you boil 2 lbs of this stuff?
Sandwiches for an army for a week.
    Bread is still $1/loaf.
    BBQ sauce is $1/bottle.
    Peanut butter is $1/jar
    Tuna Fish $.79/can (3 sandwiches)
    Relish $1/jar
Kroger Mayo (enough for weeks)... $1.89/jar
2 lbs of those baby carrots are $1.39.
    Egg sandwiches.....
    Pasta... $1/lb
    Potato salad.
Fresh seedless grapes... $.89 (in season) but there's always some fruit on sale.

I can go on and on here. Don't try this blame shifting crap. Their parents suck. Period.
