Damn right! Their bans were an egregious, unconscionable offense to the standing President. No lube for these communists. Put your fact-checkers to work on that! The former president remains suspended from most social-media platforms following the Jan. 6 riots in the U.S. Capitol ‘We’re going to hold big tech accountable,’ Mr. Trump said at a news conference at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., on Wednesday. PHOTO: SETH WENIG/ASSOCIATED PRESS By and Updated July 7, 2021 4:33 pm Former President Donald Trump has suedFacebook, Twitter and Google, seeking to restore his online profile after he was suspended from most social-media platforms following the Jan. 6 riots in the U.S. Capitol. Mr. Trump was the most prominent plaintiff seeking class-action status against the tech companies, claiming he has been wrongly censored by them in violation of his First Amendment rights. The lawsuits were filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Miami. “We’re going to hold big tech accountable,” Mr. Trump said at a news conference. The lawsuits named as defendants the chief executives of the three companies: Jack Dorsey of Twitter, Alphabet Inc.’s Sundar Pichai and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. Spokespeople for Twitter and Facebook declined to comment. A representative for Alphabet’s Google, which owns YouTube, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. Facebook on Jan. 7 imposed a ban lasting at least two weeks on Mr. Trump’s accounts on its flagship Facebook platform and Instagram in response to posts he made during the attack on the U.S. Capitol by a mob of his supporters the day before. Mr. Trump had repeatedly made false claims that he won the 2020 election and alleged widespread election fraud that was refuted by the administration’s top election security experts and attorneys. At the time, Facebook’s Mr. Zuckerberg said the risks of the president using the services during that period “are simply too great.” What Facebook Panel’s Decision Means for Trump, Social Networks Facebook’s independent oversight board said the company was justified when it banned former President Trump following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, but gave Facebook six months to decide on a permanent ban. WSJ’s Brad Reagan explains what comes next. Photo: Andre M. Chang/Zuma Press Mr. Trump claimed he was banned for “exercising his constitutional right of free speech,” according to the lawsuit. Other plaintiffs include Kiyan and Bobby Michael, who were members of an advisory board for Mr. Trump’s reelection campaign, and Kelly Victory, a Republican activist in Colorado. Facebook in late January said it would maintain its ban on Mr. Trump indefinitely and asked its independent oversight board to rule on whether certain posts he made before the riot had violated the company’s community standards and values. In May, the board ruled that Facebook was justified in suspending Mr. Trump but added that the company must better explain its reasoning if it decides to permanently lock him out of its social-media platforms. The fact is that first amendment protections apply to the government, not to private companies. This very website you are posting to is included. If you were ever to be banned from this particular "social-media platform", go ahead and try to sue @Baron if you felt you were aggrieved. The courts would laugh in your face. It is stated in the TOS, which you agreed to when joining this site. "10. Elite Trader does not pre-screen the content posted by users. However, Elite Trader and its agents have the right at their sole discretion to remove any content that, in Elite Trader's judgment, does not comply with the Member Conduct Rules or is otherwise harmful, objectionable, or inaccurate. Elite Trader and its agents may suspend or ban users posting such content at any time without notice. Elite Trader is not responsible for any failure or delay in removing or editing such content." All the other "big" sites like FB and Twitter have the same damned TOS, worded in a similar fashion. There is no getting around that. And by the way, for all you script-kiddies out there. Web sites are not "social media" sites. Just because you can browse the web on your fucking iPhone does not make the entire internet a "social-media app".
Yes... I've heard it a million times. By the letter of the law, they were within their rights... but President Trump is not a typical user: Mr. Trump was, at the time, the standing President of the United States, Leader of the Nation, and Commander-in-Chief of the US Military. These social media corps are located in the US, and enjoy the privilges and protections of its government. For Twit FB and Goog to strong-arm and censor T is truly a slap in the face. Not just to him, but to the Office of the President and freedom of speech itself. Perhaps most important is the ultimate censorship of his voters, roughly half of the US. Trump's censorship amounted to a censorship millions of his voters. Adding insult to injury, a large chunk of his presidency is lost: all his Twitter posts, etc. I'm sure you're thrilled about this, but there is a simmering fury present here. Donyou at least see my point of view? What if Obama were to be gagged/canceled like this? You'd be screaming bloody murder. When people are censored in one way, their voice will be heard in another. This is far from over.
Two points here. A.) The fuck I care he is the "standing President of the United States, Leader of the Nation, and Commander-in-Chief of the US Military." Big fucking deal? You are making him out to be a demi-god. No, he's a human being who broke the TOS of a private organization. They enjoy the privileges and protection of the US government? They are corporations who answer to the SEC, not to the executive branch, in matters of finance. B.) Why would you think I am thrilled about it? If Obama (Biden) were gagged and cancelled for whatever reason, I would give less-than-two shits. Any platform has every right to ban/censor anyone they wish. There are SOOOOO many other platforms out there to reach the masses. It is like the guy is stupid or something. Do you really think iPhone apps, and websites, are the only forms of message exchange in this world? Today's youth. Too fucking stupid to understand the underpinnings of their technology, because everyone is a winner. Even in last place. YOUR problem, kmlikas, is you are trying to compartmentalize me into a box, dem or rep. Left or right. No. I am a free and independent thinker. As such, I am freed from the rigid constructs of those left and right ideologies. It is why I am registered as an unaffiliated voter in MA.
