I wonder if she'd be treated the same way if she was one of those green eyed blondes that did the same bone headed move a few years ago. Brits I think?<Austrians https://www.pbs.org/newshour/world/alabama-woman-who-joined-isis-cant-return-to-u-s-pompeo-says WASHINGTON — An Alabama woman who left home to join the Islamic State group in Syria is not a U.S. citizen and will not be allowed to return to the United States, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday. In a brief statement that gave no details as to how the determination was reached, Pompeo said Muthana, who says she made a mistake in joining the group and now wants to return with her 18-month-old son, has no “legal basis” to claim American citizenship.
I'm curious. Are you agreeing with this action or disagreeing with it? If Obama had stripped the woman, would you still disagree? If so, this may just be another OrangeManBad incident.
The woman was not a US citizen! Although, she was born in the US, her dad had a diplomatic passport. In that case, children of foreign diplomats born in US do not become automatic US citizens. One of the rational provisions of the Immigration Laws of the US that actually, make sense! The US can deny re-entry to any foreigner which she is!
I think the wording is key here for legal precedent. Is she being denied entry on grounds she is NOT a U.S. citizen or being denied entry because she was stripped of U.S. citizenship. Pompeo claims she was never a U.S. citizen despite being born in the U.S. and getting a U.S. passport. If the government's claim can be defeated on a legal challenge then she has to be allowed back and you can throw her in jail for the rest of her life or pick a state that has the death penalty. That is why it is important for the government to make the right legal case to keep her out. Just curious from a legal standpoint.
Based on the provided reasoning (read none) disagreeing, even if Obama had done it. Now, droning citizens who are enemy combatants without a trial, is a different story.
As much as this woman repulses me by her actions, I do not think the government can constitutionally revoke citizenship. The government is "by" and "for" the people. Citizens give government power, not vice versa. She should be permitted back into the country if that is her wish. She should also be arrested and tried for treason, waging war on the US as soon as she steps foot on US soil. They should tell her this now so she understands her options. Send a message, loud and clear.
Well she is not a U.S. citizen so it's not a problem. She has no basis for being allowed to come to the U.S.
