Donald Trump pays $2 million to charity, ending the Trump Foundation saga

ALBANY, N.Y. – President Donald Trump paid a total of $2 million to charity as part of an agreement to end a lawsuit accusing him and his family of illegally mismanaging his charitable foundation.

New York Attorney General Letitia James announced Tuesday that Trump made good on the payment to eight different charities, which was the last outstanding term of a settlement agreement with James' office.

The lawsuit, originally filed in June 2018, accused Trump and his three eldest children of using the Donald J. Trump Foundation to advance his self-interests and boost his presidential campaign, in part by allowing Trump's campaign staff to orchestrate and run a televised fundraiser for veterans' organizations in Iowa in 2016.

Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Saliann Scarpulla ordered the personal $2 million payment from the president last month after Trump and the Attorney General's Office reached agreement on other major aspects of the deal to dissolve the lawsuit.

The charities received an additional $1.8 million from the Trump Foundation, which included about $11,000 Trump repaid the charity for sports memorabilia and champagne it purchased.

It's a real shame there wasn't enough of a push to activate the domestic emoluments clause. It would appear from these articles he's just funneling money out of his private businesses while being president. I guess constitutionality is only as good as the people responsible for enforcing it.

SCOTUS is already hinting that House members have no standing in bringing emoluments lawsuits against the orange menace. There was an article I think yesterday on it.

  4. Curious then who would have standing to bring emoluments clause because it is a charge did something to enrich themselves so there is no victim with standing except any U.S. citizen perhaps.

the reading from the appeals court (sorry not SCOTUS) sounded like it had to be the whole House as in some sort of resolution, not just a single House member as it's playing out. It sounds a bit ridiculous and like a cop out tbh.
