First, Trump claimed 60,000. Now we exceeded 60,000 so he claims 100,000. Shortly he will be talking about 150,000. IMO the U.S. death toll will hit 100,000 in the next few weeks. Coronavirus: Trump warns US death toll could hit 100,000 BBC - https://tinyurl.com/yarr89d2 US President Donald Trump has warned that as many as 100,000 people could die of coronavirus in the US. Speaking at a two-hour virtual "town hall", Mr Trump also denied that his administration had acted too slowly. More than 67,000 people have already died with Covid-19 in the US. But Mr Trump expressed optimism about the development of a vaccine, suggesting one could be ready by the end of this year - although experts believe it will take 12 to 18 months. "I think we're going to have a vaccine by the end of the year," he told Fox News. "The doctors would say, well you shouldn't say that. I'll say what I think... I think we'll a vaccine sooner rather than later." Among the experts to disagree with this optimistic estimate are Dr Anthony Fauci, America's top infectious disease expert, and England's Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty. Dr Fauci has previously said a vaccine will take up to 18 months to develop, while Professor Whitty said last month the chances of having an effective vaccine or other treatment within the next year were "incredibly small". The town hall - or community meeting featuring viewers' questions - was intended to relaunch Mr Trump's presidential campaign in lieu of rallies. President Trump also rejected claims that his administration had failed to act quickly enough at the start of the outbreak, saying: "We did the right thing." Instead, he again accused China for failing to stop the virus spreading: "I think they made a horrible mistake, and they didn't want to admit it. We wanted to go in. They didn't want us there." Mr Trump also laid some of the blame at the door of US intelligence officials, accusing them of failing to raise concerns about the outbreak until 23 January. However, US broadcasters CNN and ABC report that the president's intelligence briefings mentioned the coronavirus as early as 3 January.
Even if intelligence briefings did not mention it until January 23 that was still enough time to do something me thinks... I will even play Devil's Advocate here and say we were going to have deaths no matter what because hundreds of thousands of people would have entered the U.S from Asia and Europe for 2 weeks prior to us realizing this was an issue in January. The death part was inevitable. That is what happens when a novel virus explodes and you can carry it for 10 days before knowing you have it or not know at all. My main criticism is the U.S. is a disjointed mess with no coordinated effort so we are in lockdown for 2 - 3 months while most countries jumped all over this (except slow reactions in Italy and Spain) and are starting to live in a post-COVID environment. We have sides that are rooting for the virus to take down a president and sides that want to dismiss it as a nothing burger so we can ignore it and move on already. The rest of us are stuck in the middle wondering when we will have testing so i can get the fuck out of my house.
Trump will run into the same problem the climate cultists do. Trying to pin exact numbers with such limited data is an invitation to ridicule down the road. What we do know is that 100k dead is a statistical zero, not even a rounding error. Now if this keeps up at this pace it's a problem. All indications now, with a very few exceptions, are we are well on the otherside of this, with the caveat, for now. Keep an eye out, be prudent, focus on those truly at risk, and get back to business. Everything else is political gamesmanship and it's destructive to our country.
Probably over 300k 'more than Americans dead on WWII' is his old school (got in by transfer as not good enough) Wharton's estimate. Now it is running wild again.. I hope not by July in one of their pessamistic scenarios but I expect within the year. We all figured with Trump the chances were something serious would happen and he would screw up as he always does with anything bigger than a golf course.. At least its not nuclear war. Yet.
Anyone can see it's flattened and the trend is now slightly down from the peak. That was the orginal goal, no? Flatten the curve? Time to get back to business, not business as usual, but back at it. There are more lives at stake than just those at risk of Covid. We cannot just continue to ignore that fact
The federal government and state standard is a downtrend in new cases for 14 days to proceed with Stage 1 of re-opening. Have we met that?
Who cares about some arbitrary number the "experts" dreamed up. 14 days? Why not 21 just to be safe? Rumors abound that this virus has many mysterious ways about it. Let's make it an even 30, that's the ticket. No wait, best wait until the election. Democrat wins the all clear is given. Trump wins and it's worsr thsn ever, we're all gonna die. You must know that is how this all plays out
You can go talk to all the scientific experts on why the period is 14 days. It probably has something to do with the maximum time for COVID-19 symptoms to appear after exposure is 13 days.
Covid thread after Covid thread day after day. Its always a shock when someone you think you are acquainted with turns out to be a coward. Gotta put you on ignore for a time until you regain your huevos and your footing.
