Trump claims without evidence that ‘most of the people not getting paid’ in partial government shutdown are Democrats

President Trump on Thursday claimed that “most of the people not getting paid” in the partial government shutdown are Democrats, days after he contended that many federal workers support his call for more border wall funding.

In that case, wouldn't shutting down the government be a violation of the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978 , which prohibits political affiliation discrimination against federal employees?

No. That was overturned by the MAGA act of 2016.

The reality is that most of the non-essential federal government employees are probably Democrats. Most of the federal agencies around DC are simply job programs for the people living in surrounding high crime Maryland suburbs such as Suitland. Trump is probably correct in his assertion but I don’t have any source of figures to prove it.

The other reality is that there is nothing more that these non-essential federal employees love more than a shutdown. They get to sit at home and do nothing... and still get paid for the days in the end.

Yea, watching Fox News during executive time and lying endlessly on twitter is how these federal employees operate. Not to mention the golf trips and crafting legislation to benefit their donors and organizations.

  8. As someone with close familiarity with many federal agencies in this area, this is so wrong I cannot believe you typed it without a hand cramp. Many agencies, such as Commerce, Treasury, Energy, Transportation, HHS, are filled with people with post graduate degrees, security clearnces, former military backgrounds/service, not to mention lawyers, accountants, economists, program analysts and academy service backgrounds. You think they are all poor welfare recipients but for their federal job living in high crime areas.

Do you even know where 2-3 of the wealthiest and most educated counties are in the United States? Give you one guess where the top 6 are located IN THE ENTIRE U.S.

The largest employer in the D.C. area is the Federal Government. You may be swayed by the mentally challenged idiots that pass through the White House but the agencies and departments are staffed with Phds, MAs, JDs and plenty of college degrees and those make money at the GS-12 or higher.

Remember these people serve and don't give a shit who is President because their jobs are not political appointed, but career hires.

Remember you said you dont have any source or figures to back up your opinion.

Also look who has more post grad degrees.....

Let me ask - have you ever personally worked for a federal agency in the D.C. area? Until you do you will have no grasp on how correct I am.

In fact the stated purpose of the federal building complex out in Suitland and several other federal complexes in the D.C. area was to provide jobs for those in poorer communities - these are basically social engineering unionized job programs. A good number of the D.C. area federal complexes are located in areas so dangerous that federal employees are not allowed to stay in the nearby hotels.

While some of the people working for the federal government have advanced degrees. The vast majority working for these agencies do not. I will credit many federal employees with being bright and hard working. However that does not detract from the reality that most people in the D.C. region lean left in political affiliation - so the bottom line is that Trump’s statement is most likely correct. This of course aligns with the voting demographics of the D.C. region.

  10. Yes I have and what you describe is a tiny portion of the federal government so you are taking an example and generalizing the entire federal workforce. A good number of the federal complexes are located in Suitland?? Sorry but that is simply incorrect. The good number are located in the downtown area with satellite branches spread throughout.

Most residents in D.C. metropolitan area vote Democrat based on county election demographics but workers in the federal government come from all over the U.S., including many red states. They are spread out over 5 to 6 counties. The number of residents of Arlington, Fairfax, and Alexandria counties plus D.C. dwarfs the number of federal workers so it is wrong to assume the residents political leaning applies to federal workers in a blanket statement. I oversaw things in several federal agencies during the transition from Clinton to Bush and plenty of happy Bush voters working there (not to say federal agencies are mostly GOP but at that time that was the leaning which was far different than the regional leaning).

I believe there is a strong difference between an opinion someone believe coudl be correct with no facts to back it up versus the reality.

For that matter I respectfully disagree based on personal evidence and observation.
