great move... http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/storie...ME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2016-05-18-14-08-40 JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has released a list of 11 potential Supreme Court justices he plans to vet to fill the seat of late Justice Antonin Scalia if he's elected to the White House. Trump's picks include Steven Colloton of Iowa, Allison Eid of Colorado and Raymond Gruender of Missouri. Also on the list are: Thomas Hardiman of Pennsylvania, Raymond Kethledge of Michigan, Joan Larsen of Michigan, Thomas Lee of Utah, William Pryor of Alabama, David Stras of Minnesota, Diane Sykes of Wisconsin and Don Willett of Texas. Trump had previously named Pryor and Sykes as examples of kind of justices he would choose. The news comes as Trump is working to bring together a fractured Republican Party and earn the trust of skill-skeptical establishment Republicans who question his electability in the general election and conservatives in his party still weary of his commitment to their cause. In a statement, Trump said the list "is representative of the kind of constitutional principles I value" and said that, as president, he would use it "as a guide to nominate our next United States Supreme Court Justices." His campaign stressed the list was compiled "first and foremost, based on constitutional principles, with input from highly respected conservatives and Republican Party leadership."
Zoe Norton @zoe_nor 6m6 minutes ago One of Donald Trump's Supreme Court picks has mocked him on Twitter http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-...-picks-has-mock-1463599167-htmlstory.html---- ======== So one of his picks has been trolling him for a year on twitter. This is what you get when you get the list from 'respected conservatives and Republican Leadership' If he wins the election and doesn't pick another Robert Bork, we've wasted all our time.
I don't know if this was good strategy or not. His supporters don't need it. It has the possibility of hurting him with the dem votes he needs, and it seems to be an effort to get the nevertrumpers. Seeing as how they were the ones that demanded he do it, i'm not sure if they were demanding he do something that would ultimately help him. They hate his guts.
providing the list is good... I think it will help sure up the vote of those who dislike the establishment but are skeptical as to whether he will be conservative enough.
Apparently one of Drumpf's choices, Don Willet, believes in judicial activism. I'm sure AAA will condemn that choice, since he hates activist judges.
I don't think judges should be activist... we don't need AAA on that. If you are correct that is a problem.
http://www.breitbart.com/video/2016...st-will-dramatic-effect-unifying-republicans/ Krauthammer: Trump Supreme Court List Will Have a ‘Dramatic Effect’ in Unifying Republicans Wednesday on Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer reacted to the list put forth by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump of who he is considering to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court should he be elected president. According to Krauthammer, that list could have “a dramatic effect” in unifying a splintered GOP. “I think it will have a dramatic effect in doing that,” he said. “The one thing holding back people who have resisted supporting Ttrump or at least the major thing is the fear of what a Clinton presidency would do to the Supreme Court and how it would change it for a generation. Now you get a list of 11 who are quite sterling. Three of them clerked for Justice Thomas, two of them for Justice Scalia. The six federal judges all appointed by George W. which means they are conservative, and they are relatively young. So this is a future looking list. The only caveat is what you and I heard on the interview that will be on with Hannity where Trump said his appointee will most likely be from this list, not going to be, but most likely. How do you interpret that? I don’t know. He always leaves himself wiggle room. He says he likes to have leverage. He keeps the leverage. What he does is to kindle a little bit of doubt.”
We know for sure that the absolute worst judge Trump could appoint would be better than anyone Hillary would appoint. And as Trump has noted, the conservative true believers who are so skeptical of his possible appointments should have plenty of egg on their faces because of Chief Justice Roberts, who they thought was so great before he folded like a cheap lawn chair when Obama put the pressure on.
