Trump ordered the firing last June of Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel overseeing the Russia investigation, according to four people told of the matter, but ultimately backed down after the White House counsel threatened to resign rather than carry out the directive. The West Wing confrontation marks the first time Mr. Trump is known to have tried to fire the special counsel. Mr. Mueller learned about the episode in recent months as his investigators interviewed current and former senior White House officials in his inquiry into whether the president obstructed justice. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/25/us/politics/trump-mueller-special-counsel-russia.html https://www.mediaite.com/online/bre...r-firing-until-wh-counsel-threatened-to-quit/
Amid the first wave of news media reports that Mr. Mueller was examining a possible obstruction case, the president began to argue that Mr. Mueller had three conflicts of interest that disqualified him from overseeing the investigation, two of the people said. First, he claimed that a dispute years ago over fees at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Va., had prompted Mr. Mueller, the F.B.I. director at the time, to resign his membership. The president also said Mr. Mueller could not be impartial because he had most recently worked for the law firm that previously represented the president’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner. Finally, the president said, Mr. Mueller had been interviewed to return as the F.B.I. director the day before he was appointed special counsel in May.
Just for those too young or too dumb from Breitbart or who don't understand the details. The first count of Nixon's Impeachment Articles was Obstruction of Justice. What most don't realize is that the obstruction was for firing Special Counsel Cox. If McGahn testified that he refused the order because it was obstruction (since people in the chain of command are allowed to resist illegal orders) then Trump would still be guilty of obstruction. Obstruction does not have to be "successful". It merely had to have been attempted, with purpose.
To recap: Trump asked Comey for loyalty; asked him to drop the Flynn probe; fired Comey; pressured Sessions not to recuse; pressured Sessions to fire McCabe; pressured Coats, Rogers, Pompeo &multiple congressmen to say he wasn’t under FBI investigation; and tried to fire Mueller. Tweet
Jared Kushner has been "spooked" and the chance to interview him on the Trump Tower meeting is "shot," Judiciary Chair GRASSLEY says
Nixon orders Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General to fire special counsel Archibald Cox, they refuse and resign. Nixon orders acting AG Bork to fire Cox, Bork does so (but he too resigns later) Federal court rules firing Cox was obstruction of justice. Bipartisan public sentiment for impeachment soars from 22% to 71%. House Judiciary Committee files three articles of impeachment. Nixon last seen waving from the steps of Marine One. To get the replay, we need those numbers again. Trump is currently at 35%, so we need 5% of Trump supporters to finally see the light and end this criminal facade!
