But this was years ago like in 2016!

George Papadopolous has pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents, the federal special counsel said on Monday, becoming the third adviser to President Donald Trump’s campaign to face criminal charges in its investigation.

Papadopolous, of Chicago, is an international energy lawyer who was part of Trump’s advisory team during the 2016 presidential campaign. He pleaded guilty on Oct. 5 in a case unsealed on Monday, the special counsel’s office said in a statement.

Prosecutors charged Papadopolous with lying to investigators about his conversations with a foreign professor who told him that Russians had thousands of emails containing "dirt" on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The Trump aide told the FBI that those conversations happened before he joined the campaign, statements rebutted by the Justice Department's timeline.

This is an even bigger deal. Papadapolous was on the early Trump campaign foreign policy team. If you follow Seth Abramson on twitter you will understand how important he is to the total Russian/Trump conspiracy.

It essentially boils down to Trump's foreign policy team only operating as a vehicle to secretly communicate with Russia. The entire team included Carter Page, but he was never seen in any meetings. The team discussed sending a 'private citizen' to Moscow to meet with Putin.

That ended up being Carter Page.

  3. This is some real news :
for a top lawyer, to lie to the FBI is really astonishing.
I seriously do not understand people who still do not get it that it is
better keep one mouth shut than to go into lying mode, whenever FBI shows up somewhere.

Many people seem to really have a mediocre opinion of the FBI :
though not only do they have the best international information system ,
but also the very best psychologists/psychiatrists/mind people in the world.

I'm still trying to figure this one out.He is definitely important but if he has already pleaded guilty seems they couldn't get him to flip and they might not have enough on him to get him flip.He might be willing to do the time if all they have on him is lying to The FBI.Maybe they will delay sentencing while getting more evidence or even try to get him to flip after sentencing as that happens sometimes such as the guy in The Mayor of New Orleans case who flipped after he was prison.I'm just guessing:confused:

  5. May be he could not not plead guilty because he saw the evidence, and did not have a choice
This reminds me of the spoofing trader who first thought he could lie to the FBI.
They got him to start cracking when he was forced to admit he lied, from there he understood what he was dealing with - the FBI. From then on, they worked on him, and now, even his own lawyers do respect the FBI.
Same here: the lawyer thought he was smarter. The lawyer has just now admitted to lying.
First step in honesty. May be soon he will claim severe mental illnesses.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

On another site someone stated he could have plead guilty as part of a plea deal and is already cooperating.

The Trump team will try to downplay this guy (DJTJ already retweeted someone saying Papadopoulous was "unpaid") but when they announced their foreign policy advisors in March 2016, he was specifically named along with Sessions, Page, and others.

Here's an article from when the foreign policy team was announced, that leads with a headline pointing out how weird Papadopoulos' position is given his inexperience.

"The FBI interview where Papadopolous lied about his Russia contacts came on the same day, Jan. 27, Trump asked Comey for a loyalty pledge." - Matthew Miller

    Hmm. What a wacky coincidence.
