We want legal immigration they said... https://thehill.com/latino/431035-uscis-completes-proposal-to-end-work-visas-for-h1b-spouses-report Trump administration to end program providing work permits to spouses of certain immigrants U.S. Customs and Immigration Services completed a proposal to end work visas for spouses of temporary specialized foreign workers, Bloomberg Law reported Thursday. The reported proposal would eliminate H-4 work permits for spouses of people holding H-1B visas and waiting for green cards to become available. About 90,000 people, many of them Indian women, hold H-4 permits. The proposal was reportedly sent to the White House Office of Management and Budget on Wednesday.
And a bit different perspective. Libtards, don't click the link. You might suffer a seizure. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/...r-slams-trumps-plan-boost-jobs-u-s-graduates/
I think H-1B is a typical problem of nothing wrong with the law but everything wrong with how it is enforced/employed. An H-1B visa allows an individual to enter the United States to temporarily work at an employer in a specialty occupation. The regulations define a specialty occupation as requiring theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge in a field of human endeavor including but not limited to biotechnology, chemistry, computing, architecture, engineering, statistics, physical sciences, journalism, medicine and health: doctor, dentists, nurses, physiotherapists, etc., economics, education, research, law, accounting, business specialties, technical writing, theology, and the arts, and requiring the attainment of a bachelor's degree or its equivalent as a minimum. The part that was supposed to be enforced is that you can sponsor H-1B visas if you make a case that you cannot find this specialized knowledgable person here in the U.S. and the sponsoree was uniquely qualified to fill that role. It was not meant to displace U.S. workers but support companies in the growing technology and medical fields mainly to have access to the pool of highly qualified and intelligent skills form overseas (sorry but Asian Ph.ds and Master's programs are way more intensive than in the U.S. built on a better education system). Of course it was also used in sports fields by teams to bring in top athletes but that is to be expected So H-1B should have been used primarily to support economic growth through bringing in qualified people to fill a shortage of U.S. qualified candidates and improve the workforce. Of course we all know that is NOT how H-1B vias is being used in reality..... The objective of H-1B was never really enforced or focused on and it was pretty easy to make a justification in a sponsorship application and bring people in.
If you guys think H-1B’s are a problem just imagine if we turned our whole immigration system into an H-1B model based on business need as the republicans want. The whole system will turn into a giant multinational kickback and favoritism scam.
Let's see how basing immigration on the necessary skills to meet the business needs of the economy is working out in Canada. Oh, it's working out perfectly in Canada.
Ok fair enough but then how do you base it? Every poll I have seen shows voters want immigration, legal and illegal, reduced. This is one of two issues ( the other being getting into foolish wars) where the gap between voters and the dirtbag pols who presume to represent them is the largest. We have had far too much immigration in recent years. We need a pause, similar to the one we had for several decades in the last century. Let the system and country adjust and assimilate the hordes who have already arrived. It might hurt the bottom line of some businesses. Boo hoo.
I read over the weekend somewhere that Canada has the highest per capita immigration rate in the world and that is a failure. The truth is too much immigration is a policy failure. The fact that we need immigration at a million people a year shows we have a thriving economy but a country where young people cannot afford to raise a family. It’s the wealth gap, stupid. (I do t mean that personally to you, but a take on Carville’s expression.) Established Americans are simply not having enough children because businesses are taken advantage of American workers. Three things have to be addressed if you ever want to get less immigration: Student loans Healthcare Retirement Until then this country will import workers at one million a year and increasing no matter what any republican tells you.
