Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on their moving away from Dorman to their own FCM? It seems odd to me as they are being bought by Ninja, assuming it goes through, and I thought Ninja was an FCM also. Why go through the process and then get bought by another FCM?
NinjaTrader already acquired Tradovate (the deal closed). I think Ninja is just keeping the two platforms as separate properties because NinjaTrader has a rich 3rd party community building on top of their Windows platform, and Tradovate has the strength of a web platform and APIs. Tradovate moving to their own FCM is likely similar to what Ninja did with NinjaTrader Continuum. Probably to avoid confusion and for other legal reasons, they created a separate FCM for Tradovate rather than having Tradovate accounts go through NinjaTrader FCM.
I can't find Tradovate FCM on the CFTC webpage So which FCM is clearing Tradovate? https://www.cftc.gov/sites/default/files/2022-10/01 - FCM Webpage Update - August 2022.pdf
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY CAN KILL YOU IN A FEW MINUTES TRADOVATE Margin Changes for Economic News Announcements 12 days ago Updated Intraday margin rates will be set to Initial Exchange Margin prior to the release of key economic news announcements for any and/or all products. The temporary elevated margin requirements will remain in place until market volatility is determined to present manageable risk for our traders. Please be aware, the elevated initial margin rates will apply to both existing positions and when entering a new position which may present significant risk to the account. During this time, previously opened positions or working orders without exchange initial margin may be closed without prior notification.
I don't know why it isn't showing on the CFTC site. It does show them being a FCM on the NFA site. I would like to know more about that and why that is the case. As far as margins, I never got that email/memo. It makes me wonder if someone tried playing a number with huge size based on the day margins and were crushed and the firm took a hit? For me, similiar to the complaints about IB's margins, I really don't have a problem with margin changes based on conditions, but I definitely want to know about it ahead of time. I'd rather a firm use common sense and avoid being put out of business by the genius playing poker and losing big on their bet.
As a subsidiary of NinjaTrader Group, LLC, Tradovate (NFA ID# 0309379) is an NFA registered futures commissions merchant DBA of NinjaTrader Clearing. Based on user feedback the margin update policy around economic news announcements was adjusted to reflect an increase to 4X intraday rates effective 15 minutes prior to these news events. The temporary elevated margin requirements will remain in place approximately 5 minutes following the announcement once market volatility is determined to present manageable risk for traders. Additionally, this updated margin rates apply only when entering a new position.
Thanks for the clarification, I kind of figured that was the case. I have no issue with the margin changes, again I'd rather have you protected which in turn protects us. I am wondering why I didn't see the notice of the change. I didn't get an email or anything.
