To kiwi and other computer-savvy folks on ET: How important is the access speed of an SSD used in a computer exclusively for trading (including charting)? I currently use a VPS and after a quick benchmark, using AS SSD Benchmark and obtained access times of 0.238ms (read) which is quite good but the write speed (10.413ms) is much worse I have attached a screenshot My trading platform is Multicharts, my broker is LMAX and what I really want to know is if these mediocre access speed figures can affect the execution speed of my trades Thanks in advance for any feedback!
Execution speed? Not at all. Even if executing needed some kind of file system access the specific files are most likely already cached in RAM by the OS. If they aren't they're cached after that point.
SSD are really good for speeding up some startups and that's really it. IT may gain something to speed up whole load up of application but really not that much than this for example. Do not expect any serious overall speed up where it can't be.
