Trading News Platforms

Discussion in 'Professional Trading' started by stocktrader3429, Sep 20, 2008.

  1. I was thinking about trading the news. I've been trading news here and there, and I've been able to scalp 2-3% (if the stock surges 10%+) in the past year or so, and I would like to look into it seriously.

That would mean that I would need a platform that gets me the news asap, so I can make my move.

Any news platforms you guys recommend? Any comments on this strategy?

    Thanks.

  2. If you really want to, I advise you bloomberg or just thinkorswim platfrom. They have a live news feature.

But I think that trading news is practically impossible unless you are a floor trader. I wanted to do that myself, and it was a total failure and it doesn't matter whether you use underlying or options. If you trade the latter, the bid-ask spread on option before some announcement is high and premium also (because of IV). Marketmakers do their work. If you want to trade stocks with news as a base, then you should understand soon that no one will discover the news earlier than traders on the floor. They really move the markets and by the time you discover the news, the stock may have already soared. IMHO. :)
