Trading is all about ...

  1. Had an interesting conversation today with a trader (successful swing trader, with many years under his belt, currently at a bond futures prop trader). He recounted to me what his first boss had told him ‘many years ago’, which he still considers to be true …

“Trading is all about survival, making sure you can stay in the game. Good times will always come, but you have to ensure you’re still around to benefit when they do. And it is not about just ‘not losing’… you have to do better than just ‘not losing’ …”

I just wanted to put this out there, in case it's of interest to anyone else, or in case anyone wants to comment ...

  3. I couldn't agree more with the quoted statement. I don't think that's what trading is all about but I definitely think it's a huge factor about the longevity you are able to maintain when it comes to trading these markets. It's about being able to set a loss limit and when you have that losing day, being able to walk away from you computer feeling uninhibited. It definitely takes some kind of skill to make money in these markets, especially with what we've been seeing these past, I would say 2-3 years. It's not about luck being on your side, but more about how well you can evolve with these markets.

    A) making as much money as possible in the shortest time.

    B) getting the ***** rich and stay it.

    C) make enough money and retire and never trade again.

    D) fullfill all your dreams, money can buy.

    E) Be better than the rest.
