Hello! I admit I am a newbie trying to get started first with demo trading, but I have ran into a big "snag". I downloaded TWS and was setting things up and as I am a very busy person I was working on it over the course of time.. I got it set up and a few days later I had a computer crash, and had to do a recovery. My computer is fairly old- windows 8 but still runs pretty good. During the recovery TWS was removed from the computer.. No problem I figured, so I re-installed it.. Well it will NOT load, and will NOT uninstall.. I get a notice it needs JDK or JRE java "as it is not on my system" which is not true, JDK 8 is there plain as can be in my programs. I tried uninstalling from my control panel -remove, and I get the notice that I do not have JDK or JRE in my system. I tried uninstalling it from the start menu- WTS "uninstall" button and once again I get the notice "I do not have JDK or JDR-- (TWS worked only a few days ago before recovery) I tried clicking on the TWS "download" icon and it ran a re-install- and again it will not load and will not uninstall.. and the same -'You do not have JDK or JDR comes up.. I updated my Java, and I still get the same thing... I did see a notice that maybe a firewall or antivirus was causing problems, so I reduced my antivirus, and still the same problem...I clicked on the install icon several times, and each time it says it re-installed, but I always get "you do not have JDK or JDR on your computer- even though I updated the Java--- I am baffled and don't know what to do.. anyone have any ideas out there?? thanks..
TWS brings its own version of Java with it, so you don't have to install Java yourself. It won't use any Java software you install yourself. Which version of TWS did you install (and/or are trying to remove)? What you could try is to simply install an older version of TWS as they tend to get installed "next to each other". For demo trading does it not really matter which TWX version you use, unless you need the bleeding edge innovations.
Hello--thanks for the reply I was using the newest version, and that is what I used the first time before the computer crashed... So do you think if I installed a different version - say the one that does not automatically update- it would bring with it the java version that is needed, and correct the problem so I could uninstall one of the versions or at least load it? As it is I cannot do anything thanks
Lol, the scary thing is, a lot of people wouldn't know how to do that, or what it even means. (And don't forget the /u switch, for extra spice)
Expect all the people on the Internet who never formatted their hard drive, like those who never owned a PC, got their first PC after Win XP, or have simply been smartphone babies their entire cognizant life.
Agreed, if your not old enough to have to format floppy disks or a geek, then you've likely never formatted your hard drive either, infact you likely think your monitor is the computer and the entire box is the hard drive LOL Turn the computer off, count to 5 and turn it back on, is it loading windows ?? what do you mean it's already loaded, arrggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
Well I am the one you are talking about.. yes I think you are saying to re-format Drive C- -- and yes I can do many many things with a computer, even do a tiny bit of wiggling a bit of very simple code, but no I do not know how to re-format a hard drive..I had a registry clean soft ware one time and it "blew" the system and it never worked again, so some things I do not attempt..
AVG anti virus asked me if I wanted to 'shred" the TWS program, not sure if that is a good thing to attempt or not to get rid of the TWS...
